Description:

Autopilot, Inc., an AS9100 certified precision manufacturing company, is seeking CNC Programmers / Machinists to contribute to our growing company. Autopilot’s customers span many industries, including the outdoor industry, aerospace / defense, photonics / imaging and many other commercial enterprises. The position provides long-term stability and opportunity for career growth.

Autopilot is seeking both a prototype machinist and a production machinist (details below). The ideal shift would work M-F, 8am – 5pm, but evening and weekend shifts will also be considered.

Duties:

You will work with engineers and management to exchange technical information and review 3D CAD/CAM models and drawings to machine, assemble and modify precision parts using a variety of multi-axis CNC mills and lathes. The candidate will perform complex machining operations using a variety of common and exotic materials with off-the-shelf and custom tooling. This position is supported by Autopilot’s growing investment in automation, quality inspection equipment and the implementation of a paperless job flow system.

The prototype machinist will work in a fast paced environment, where lead-times of 1-7 days are common from the order to completed job. Utilizing 3- and 4-axis CNC mills and modern turning centers, the prototype machinist will need to quickly develop fixturing, tooling, workholding and programming strategies to ensure that parts are delivered on time. Most jobs utilize standard aluminum and steel, but experience with titanium, brass / copper, plastics and other exotic materials is helpful. Part runs vary from quantity 1 to quantity 150 and will typically be the responsibility of the prototype machinist so the ability to work autonomously is necessary.

The production machinist will work to ensure that contracted jobs are managed to run efficiently and on-time and will be involved in quoting, programming and set-up of large run, production scale jobs varying from 1,000 to 10,000+ parts annually. Knowledge of 3- and 4-axis CNC mills and twin-spindle, live tooling turning centers is necessary. The production machinist will work closely with machine operators to solve problems, reduce cycle time and meet shipping deadlines. While not mandatory, the ability to program and utilize robotic arms and other automation equipment for part loading / unloading is preferred.

Skills:

Must have strong analytical and mechanical troubleshooting skills

Must be self-motivated with a high level of creativity

Strong interpersonal skills required to achieve cooperation and reach agreement with internal and external customers and suppliers

Knowledge of CNC programming (with a preference of GibbsCam experience) and ability to deal with tight tolerances

Ability to prioritize, schedule and execute a high volume of prototype, short-run and contract manufacturing jobs

Ability to utilize precision inspection equipment to ensure parts meet customer specifications

Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent (2- or 4-year degree in machining, manufacturing or engineering highly preferred)

5+ years previous experience in CNC machining highly preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour, DOE
