Faculty Appointment Type Tenure Track Term (if applicable) 9 month Begin Date of Appointment 08/12/2024 Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt General Function The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.Description of Primary Duties We seek a candidate who can demonstrate a commitment to inclusive teaching practices and expertise in cell and molecular biology. Teaching responsibilities include instructing, advising, and supporting both undergraduate and graduate students as well as providing access to high impact practices aimed at increasing student retention, persistence, and success. Research responsibilities include development of an active research program involving undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) students resulting in peer-reviewed publications and applications for extramural funding to support research. Candidates should provide service to the department, college, university, and community to fulfill the Public Affairs Mission.Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.Additional Qualifications Qualifications

A doctorate (Ph.D.) in cellular biology, molecular biology, or closely related field

Ability to teach courses in human-focused cell biology and related electives such as neurobiology, cancer biology, embryology, signal transduction, virology, histology, molecular biology, medical microbiology, biotechnology, or pharmacology

Potential for, or evidence of, application of innovative, learner-centered pedagogy

Involvement and ability to engage undergraduate and graduate students in biomedical science research

A publication record in peer-reviewed journals

Ability or potential to mentor and support our student population

Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds
