What will you make today?The selected candidate will be part of a team that will drive future product development and be developing industry first features and components in the growing field of vehicle electrification & Home Energy Management Systems!What you'll doSupport system level integration testing and certification of HEMS / DER system, using resources such as bench, test site (mini-home), and beta homes, to ensure simple and reliable integration in the fieldLead interconnection application process for major utilities - responsible for working with and seeking approval of local and regional utilities, via interconnect application process, to certify V2G interconnection of HEMS / DER ecosystemPrioritize North American DER integration partners (including Energy Storage Systems (ESS), Photovoltaic (PV) systems, Stationary Generators, and other alternative energy resources) based on market research and interface protocol commonalityMaintain awareness of various local and regional utility and AHJ standards, processes, and requirementsAct as liaison to Ford internal utility pilot program teamsServe as the lead internal technical resource of DER systems with a focus on the controls interface and integration into Ford HEMSMaintain up-to-date knowledge of safety standards, operational standards, and best practices and develop DER solutions that meet regional standards and code compliance (i.e. IEEE standards, UL safety standards, and NFPA NEC code)Participate in software code and hardware design reviews and troubleshoot electrical and firmware issuesProvide day to day support to resolve user concerns, investigate and troubleshoot system faults and errors, resolve downtime issues and support ongoing system maintenance activities such as firmware updates and security patches. Log, escalate and close out issues identifiedStay connected with focus groups and forums to stay at the forefront of technology advancements in order to keep the team abreast of the latest technological solutionsSupport creation and maintenance of quality foundation documents (DFMEA, DVPR, Boundary Diagram, etc.) and design documents (State Machine, Sequence Diagrams, Interface Requirements Specification)Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other team membersYou'll haveBachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering, other related degree1 or more years of technical experience with PV systems, energy storage systems, and/or energy management systemsEven better, you may haveMaster of Science or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering, other related degree2-3 years of hands-on experience on with PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems with familiarity of the industry standards for communication/ control, product certification, DC/AC microgrid control, and reliability testing.Familiar with relevant industry standards including IEEE, UL, SAE, NFPC NEC, CA Rule 21, IEC, and CEAwareness of electrical grid / energy distribution, industry best practices, new products, and applications a plusExcellent debugging skills, the ability to articulate defects with detail, and excellent verbal/written communication skills while working with local/remote teamsAdditional experience will be considered based on applicant’s qualifications, and hiring level will be commensurate with education, experience, and responsibility.Strong communicator, able to effectively present to both technical and executive audiencesTeam player comfortable working in a diverse group in a dynamic, fast paced environmentSelf-starting with solid follow-through and multitasking abilities; able to work remotely.You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice.
