As a lecturer, you will contribute to the academic community by fostering an environment that establishes the principles of design thinking, creative process, environmental stewardship, and an understanding of landscape architecture's aesthetic, social, and technical aspects. The position is fully in-person at the Ann Arbor campus.What You'll DoCourse Description and Learning ObjectivesThe second half of the first-year studio experience builds upon work completed in the first half of the term and introduces students to many skills, processes, and ideas that landscape architects use in their work. The focus is primarily on generating and communicating ideas and creating socially and ecologically `just places that respond to context and are aesthetically engaging. A series of projects using different design processes and drivers will be undertaken. Projects will be reinforced by critiquing these and other selected design processes that inform contemporary landscape architecture practice. Throughout the sequence of projects, students are expected to demonstrate an evolving yet firm commitment toward design through a willingness to explore design processes and critically engage with contemporary design theory and precedents to produce innovative design responses. We will undertake a series of small assignments leading up to and relating to a more complex final project that will encourage participants to use various media (digital, analog, model, and others) to develop and disseminate ideas, concepts, and plans to a specific audience. The focus for the main project will be creating a well-designed proposal on the site of your work from the first half of the term.Objectives

Lead the design and delivery of the introductory studio course in landscape architecture.
Develop course syllabi, assignments, readings, and projects that reflect contemporary issues and practices in the field.
Provide individual and group instruction in design principles, methods, and techniques.
Encourage critical thinking and creative problem-solving through project-based learning.
Assess and evaluate student work with constructive feedback to advance their design and technical skills.
Coordinate with other faculty members to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive foundation for the program's curriculum.
Stay current with developments in landscape architecture, sustainable practices, and pedagogical techniques.
Participate in reviews, critiques, and juries for student work.
Mentor students and provide career guidance and academic advising.
This course enrolls up to 25 students and is supported by 1 0.25 Graduate Student Instructor.
This position requires in-person teaching, remote instruction will not be available.
Required Qualifications
A professional degree in Landscape Architecture (MLA or equivalent).
Professional practice experience in landscape architecture with a focus on ecological design.
A strong record of teaching introductory landscape architecture studios or evidence of potential for excellence in teaching.
Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills.
Ability to engage with students from diverse backgrounds.
Commitment to fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative studio culture.
Desired QualificationsPreferred qualifications include a professional registration in landscape architecture, knowledge of sustainable and ecological principles, and a demonstrated ability to integrate these into teaching.Additional InformationAll application materials must be submitted no later than June 20, 2024.
