Metan Marine is seeking a skilled Fiberglass and Composite Technician to join our veteran craftsman and tradesman team. We specialize in manufacturing high-quality composite/vacuum infused vessels and lead the industry in restoration and fiberglass repair as well. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with fiberglass and composite materials, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for delivering top-notch craftsmanship. Responsibilities
Fabricate, assemble, and repair fiberglass and composite components using hand lay-up, vacuum bagging, and resin infusion techniques.
Prepare molds, apply gel coats, and lay composite materials (e.g., fiberglass, carbon fiber) according to engineering specifications and blueprints.
Trim, sand, and finish parts to meet quality standards, ensuring structural integrity and cosmetic excellence.
Mix resins and catalysts accurately, adhering to safety and material handling protocols.
Inspect completed work for defects and perform repairs as needed.
Maintain tools, equipment, and workspace cleanliness to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively with supervisors to meet project deadlines.
Assist in prototyping and testing new composite designs as directed by engineering staff.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience in fiberglass and composite fabrication or repair (marine, automotive, or aerospace experience preferred).
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and composite-specific equipment (e.g., spray guns, grinders, vacuum pumps).
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, lay-up charts, and specifications.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
Familiarity with safety standards and proper handling of resins, solvents, and other chemicals.
Team player with good communication skills and a proactive attitude.
High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification in composites is a plus.
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
Experience with gelcoat application, sanding, and buffing.
Knowledge of advanced composite materials like carbon fiber or Kevlar.
Previous work in a production or manufacturing setting.
