Ranked 35 among national universities, Boston College has 888 full-time and 1,281 FTE faculty, 2,711 non-faculty employees, an operating budget of $1.4 billion, and an endowment in excess of $3.5 billion.Job DescriptionTemporary Office PoolThe TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center at Boston College is home to two major international research programs that monitor student achievement in mathematics, science, and reading. TIMSS and PIRLS are regular assessments involving more than 60 countries worldwide.The TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center is seeking to hire an experienced Temporary Copy Editor. Experience in editing academic and research publications, working with international writers, and editing for an international audience is desired.The Temporary Copy Editor will work with the Associate Research Director, Context Questionnaires and Reporting to edit the TIMSS 2023 Encyclopedia and will perform other related duties as required. The TIMSS Encyclopedia provides an overview of the national contexts in which children learn mathematics and science in the countries participating in TIMSS. Chapters are authored by representatives from each country.The Temporary Copy Editor should have considerable experience prooing and revising copy for accuracy, clarity, style, and organization, following established style guidelines, and rewriting copy, as necessary, while respecting the voice of the author. The successful candidate will have experience working quickly and accurately while conforming to deadlines and be familiar with the production process of a publication. Knowledge of APA style, education research, and other languages are pluses.This is a temporary position located at Boston College that will begin in February and run until possibly the end of September. The temporary position is for 28 hours per week or less. The pay for the position is in the $35- to $40-per-hour range based on experience.Requirements· Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or equivalent· Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in copy editing· Experience editing copy for accuracy, clarity, style, and organization· Prior experience working with academic or research publications preferred, as well as the ability to write and edit scientific and technical content· Ability to synthesize material from a variety of written and oral sources· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the use of the Tracking Changes feature· Must work well under pressure and conform to deadlinesThis is a grant-funded position.Closing StatementBoston College offers a broad and competitive range of benefits depending on your job classification eligibility:
