We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team at a waste transfer station. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery—including large and small excavators, front-end loaders, rock trucks, and other equipment—to handle, move, and manage waste and recyclable materials in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate heavy equipment such as:
o Excavators (large and small)
o Front-end loaders
o Rock trucks
o Skid steers, compactors, and other machinery as needed
Load, unload, and transfer waste materials from trucks to appropriate areas within the transfer station.
Push, spread, and compact waste materials using appropriate machinery.
Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform basic maintenance (e.g., fluid checks, greasing, and cleaning).
Identify and report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards promptly.
Follow all site safety protocols and wear required PPE at all times.
Assist with traffic control and maintain site cleanliness.
Communicate with site supervisors, truck drivers, and other personnel to ensure efficient workflow.
Complete required logs, reports, and documentation accurately and on time.
Adhere to all local, state, and federal environmental regulations and company policies.
Required Qualifications:
Valid Massachusetts Hoisting License (2A).
Current OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 2–3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in a waste management, construction, or industrial setting.
Strong understanding of equipment safety, maintenance procedures, and operational techniques.
Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
Excellent situational awareness, communication, and teamwork skills.
