Schedule (20 hours): Monday-Wednesday 4p-8p, Thursday 3p-7p, Saturday 2p-6p
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Life Coach is a trained and supervised youth advocate with lived-experience in the mental health system or child-welfare system who provides outreach, support and advocacy to youth served. The Life Coach has cultural and linguistic similarities to the youth and families served as much as possible. Life Coaches are fully integrated team members who provide highly individualized services in the community and promote resident self-determination and decision-making. Life Coaches also provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which each resident's point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Ability to work with youth or youth and families in a changing setting which may include transitional care and aftercare outreach.
Required to use personal vehicle, when Centerboard vehicle is not available in order to meet outreach, support and engagement requirements
Responsible for updating and recording their meeting notes with the individual residents on Filemaker in the Advocate Section. Will note the meeting was with the Life Coach
Schedule to include some weekend days and evenings
Some phone availability to young adults in program
Attendance at staff meetings as required
Serve as liaison between youth and staff
Participate in the hiring of staff
Representing youth on the Centerboard leadership management team, youth advisory committee.
Supporting youth transitions from/to home
Linking youth to community programs
Teaching the use of public transportation
Running youth leadership groups
One-to-one and group support work
Attendance as an advocate/support at various Centerboard, DCF, school or DMH meetings
Active participation in staff, treatment team and child and family team meetings and service reviews
Willingness to work in various settings, attend medical, school, therapeutic appointments as requested
Ability to work with both program participants and staff
Other duties as requested
QUALIFICATIONS
Required to pass initial competency evaluation as well as continued assessments of professional development and future trainings particularly in regard to understanding and embracing Trauma Informed Care and Collaborative Proactive Solutions/Behavior Management.
Must have ‘lived’ experience ideally, within the MA Child Welfare System
Must be willing and open to share own ‘lived’ experiences
Must display positive leadership qualities
Must be stable in his/her own recovery process
Must have previous volunteer or work experience
Has life goals and a personal vision
Must be able to articulate how sharing their own lived experience could be beneficial to a current ILP resident
Qualified candidates must be a willing participant in Centerboard multicultural awareness, diversity, equity and inclusion trainings, meetings and philosophy.
