Compass Government Solutions LLC is looking for a Medical Surgical RN to provide services for the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) Bethesda. 6:45 PM-7:15 AMJob requirementsThe ability to react to any emergency situation, e.g., cardiac or respiratory arrest, hemorrhage, shock, severe physical trauma and psychiatric reaction. Serve as member of resuscitation team. Activate RRT, Code Blue         Assess patients' conditions for potential or life-threatening crises. Distinguish between normal and abnormal physical findings (from physical and vital sign assessments). Plan appropriate nursing care set forth by the MTF, and IAW JC guidelines.Make rounds, evaluate patient’s condition, answer questions, give instructions, take vital signs (TPR, BP), and check functioning of medical equipment. Record vital signs and observations IAW Documentation policy and standards of care.Make rounds with physicians: Prepare equipment and supplies and assist physician during treatments and examinations, cleanse wounds and incisions, change dressings and other. Prepare and administer prescribed medications. Start, replenish and discontinue IVs and blood. Manage PCA pumps, and epidural infusions.Perform prescribed treatments. Demonstrate good time management skills.Care for patients with mechanical ventilator, operate defibrillator, EKG machine, and cardiac monitor.Contribute to the medical/nursing plan of care by observing, recognizing, recording, and reporting changes in the patient’s condition, subjective symptoms and objective signs, reactions to medications, and responses to therapy.Assess nursing needs, formulate, and implement a plan of nursing care for each patient consistent with established nursing standards and protocols for this unit and with the prescribed plan of medical care. Effectively communicate plans/actions and collaborate with healthcare team for the benefit of the patient, family and organization Educate patients and families regarding involvement in the plan of care, promotion of self-care, management of symptoms, and follow-up care.Observe and record: Medications, treatments and patient reaction/response to same; progress of infusions; physical appearance of patient, attitude, appetite, and new symptoms. Notify supervisor and/or physician of significant changes in patient’s response to treatment and care, symptoms of infection, disease, stress, reactions to Medications, etc.Use the nursing process as a basis for professional practice will demonstrate proper preparation of patients for treatments and procedures, to include surgical interventions. Provide proper care and evaluation of post- procedural patients. Adhere to peri-operative, infection control and safety policies and procedures.Demonstrate excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic in accordance with requirements.Demonstrated ability to: recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacts quickly, appropriately in emergency situations, obtain, assess, and report critical lab or diagnostic results to patient’s physician per protocol, act on all medical and therapeutic orders per policy and standard of care.Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required.Ensure that patients are properly informed and prepared for a wide variety of special tests and examinations.Provide individualized health teaching for patients and their significant others throughout hospitalizations to ensure that transfer or discharge objectives can be achieved.Interpret and operate highly specialized equipment used for required patient care. (To include external fixators, JP drains, chest tubes, wound vacs, etc.)Perform special tests and procedures following appropriate standard protocols.Provide support and proper referral for those patients and families experiencing critical illness and/or potential death. Utilize knowledge of (medical/surgical care) ethical and legal issues to provide maximal patient/family support during periods of physio psychosocial stress. Provide appropriate crisis intervention.Assist in nursing quality assurance activities through problem identification, development of nursing practice evaluation criteria, development of plans of action, and monitoring results.Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries and ensure compliance with standards of care and practice of handling narcotics, dangerous drugs, and other controlled substances in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment MTF and IAW JC guidelines.Will report to the Nurse Manager. Will take direction from charge nurse and house supervisor as required in maintaining a safe environment for the staff and patient(s).When assigned, will serve, and participate in collaterals and other meetings while on shift. Provide relevant and timely information and assists with decision-making and process improvement initiatives.As required, participate in customer service initiatives and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.Participate as preceptor in the orientation, training, and evaluation of duty performance of newly assigned personnel.Promote patient and staff safety through adherence to accepted safety and infection control standards.Perform other duties as assigned to include floating to other work units as needed.Once provided with "hands-on" experience, demonstrate working knowledge, and use of computerized patient care systems including, MHS Genesis. Obtain and maintain access to DHMRSi program and complete bi-weekly DHMRSi workload documentation.
