Sr. Security Systems Specialist

General summary/purpose : Support the delivery of campus safety and security services through the oversight of Security Systems Specialists and systems in the Communications Center for the Johns Hopkins University community.Specific duties & responsibilities

Leads the activities of assigned Security Systems Specialists, schedule work shifts, leave and assignment of subordinate personnel in a 24-7 emergency communications and monitoring facility.

Provides supervision of 3 - 4 security systems specialist and all systems.

Perform periodic work inspections and provide input towards performance evaluations of subordinate personnel.

Ensure equitable workload and quality of performance.

Monitor and respond to proprietary intrusion, environmental, and fire alarm systems.

Monitor and respond to proprietary closed circuit television systems for events or activity that may require a security response.

Provide general assistance and information to Hopkins students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Carry out administrative tasks as may be necessary for the operation of the Communications Center.

Coordinate handling of emergency situations and deployment of Hopkins security personnel during critical incidents.

Monitor Baltimore Police Department transmission and activities and transmit pertinent information to University security personnel. Contact and direct Baltimore Police, Fire and Paramedics as may be necessary.

Create and maintain manual and computerized reports, logs, records and data.

Perform other such duties as assigned, from time to time, be necessary.

Perform periodic testing and evaluation of Security Systems to ensure reliability.

Assume the duties of the Security Systems Specialist in the latter’s absence.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Must possess excellent people skills and an ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Must be able to speak clearly and understandably in telephone and radio communications.

Must be able to function effectively in a highly-charged work environment under stressful emergency conditions.

Must be familiar with Microsoft Windows computer environment and Microsoft Office.

Requirements:

Must be able to pass an extensive Maryland State Police / F.B.I. background investigation.

complete a physical/health screening examination by the Office of Occupational Health and Safety, which includes a drug screening.

Successful meet and maintain Campus Safety and Security physical requirements.

Any specific physical requirements for the job :

Must be able to function effectively for extended periods in a seated position with periodic short breaks provided.

Must have unrestricted use of both hands.

Must possess full hearing capabilities.

Must have binocular vision, corrected to a minimum of 20/40 in both eyes.

Minimum Qualifications

High school Diploma/GED required.

Four (4) years of related experience, experience with security communications, call center, security systems

Preferred Qualifications

Four (4) years related experience to include two or more years in a progressively responsible supervisory/management role.

Related experience in security communications, call center, security systems

Associate degree/some college preferred.
