Standard Baking Co. is looking for a Retail Manager. Our bakery has been running successfully for 30 years, and we are looking for someone to help us continue for the next 30 to come. We are known for our high quality, European-style breads and pastries, as well as our exceptional customer service. We have a thriving wholesale business, supplying many restaurants and markets from Scarborough to Bath. The person we are looking for is able to learn quickly on the job, works well with our small team of managers as well as our larger team of retail supervisors and staff, and is comfortable in a fast-paced environment. The summers are very busy, and that busy season expands a little in both directions each year, it seems. We are looking for someone who has experience in retail or bakery management, and who excels at building and training up teams, maintaining staff performance through continual feedback and direction, and successfully keeping a lot of balls in the air by delegating and prioritizing tasks. We are a warm and welcoming space for customers and staff alike, and we need someone who can help us to maintain that environment.

Key Responsibilities include:

Managing a crew of 20-25 retail employees in a busy, award-winning bakery, and helping to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for customers and staff.

Inspires themselves and others to work effectively as part of a team, leading by example to maintain a positive, welcoming environment.

Provides outstanding customer service daily for our guests, in person, on the phone, and online, in a high-volume, fast-paced business.

Weekly meetings with General Manager & Wholesale Manager to coordinate business needs and goals. Bi-weekly meetings with retail supervisors to discuss front of house needs or concerns and to give/receive feedback.

Daily huddles with retail staff to discuss menus, productions par numbers, troubleshoot and discuss issues.

Hiring, performance management, and termination of retail staff.

Orientation, training, coaching, developing and discipline all front-of-house employees through ongoing feedback and the establishment of performance expectations.

Plans and implements regular staff reviews.

Ensures sanitation, safety, and labor practices are upheld and compliant with all regulatory agencies.

Ensures daily product quality standards are met through coaching retail staff and communicating with production staff.

Ensures all displays and retail areas are clean, visually appealing, and meet the aesthetic standards of the bakery.

Resolving customer complaints and ensuring customer satisfaction, as well as properly documenting issues.

Schedules retail staff in order to meet daily, seasonal, and holiday demands while meeting budget guidelines.

Tip reporting for direct and indirect employees

Assists in tracking and reconciling daily cash and retail sales for internal and external reporting with a high level of accuracy.

Update POS as needed (Square registers and bespoke website).

Light bookkeeping and maintenance of spreadsheets; competency in Excel, MS Office, Wordpress, and Sage Accounting software.

Ability to work a flexible schedule to ensure smooth, efficient customer service and provide shift coverage for co-managers as needed.

Prerequisites:

3+ years of retail/bakery management experience.

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks with an appropriate sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment while absorbing and retaining information quickly.

Ability to work 40+ hours per week.

Must have manual dexterity to reach, pull, transfer, bend, lift and carry 50lbs. or less and walk/stand for long periods of time.

Must possess strong leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to build relationships and manage staff (at all levels), and to motivate and manage staff and work effectively in a management team.

Compensation:

Starting pay of $28/hour, with an increase to $30/hour after six month review.

$25k life insurance policy fully paid by Standard Baking Co.

Health insurance, FULLY PAID, after 60 days (an average of $2+/hour value).
