Position Title:International Students and Scholars AssistantJob Group:Professional & ScientificRequired Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of related experiencePreferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree.Basic knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to international students and scholars in the U.S.Experience working with international employees and/or students in a higher education setting. Familiarity with nonresident income tax procedures.Experience with Microsoft Excel.Experience with Workday or similar human capital management (HCM system).Job Description:The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) at Iowa State University seeks applicants for an International Students and Scholars Assistant position in its Scholar and Employment Unit. The ISSO Scholar and Employment Unit applies a broad range of specialized immigration expertise to bring international faculty, staff, postdocs, and visiting scholars to campus and support both international students and scholars throughout their time at Iowa State University. For more information about the ISSO, please visit: https://isso.dso.iastate.edu/The successful candidate for this position will provide tax-related intake and nonresident tax assistance for international students and scholars which includes:

Assist with Social Security Number applications and nonresident tax information.

Monitor and update tax on scholarship data.

Assist eligible students in enrolling for tax treaty benefits.

Manage the annual tax treaty benefit enrollment process for eligible international students and scholars.

Manage the process to enter newly issued Social Security Numbers into Forms I-9 for international student employees.

Duties also include tax-related systems support such as monitoring tax-related data, detecting and correcting errors, and more.The successful candidate will also provide scholar immigration caseload support which includes:

Monitor alerts related to nonstudent applications for immigration documents and benefits.

Review e-form applications for completeness and follow up to ensure receipt of all information and documents required to process the case.

Assemble information and required documentation for H-1 petitions to be prepared by senior staff.

Create and maintain resources for immigration-related hiring processes.

May prepare basic H-1B "temporary worker" petitions for postdoctoral employees.

This individual will also assist with duties such as developing/launching/analyzing assessment tools for the unit, data gathering for reporting, updating the Scholar and Employment Unit website, and other duties as assigned.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
