Maintain the health and safety of Discover's workforce and environment by monitoring and evaluating health and safety conditions; assuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and governmental standards; and maintenance of the Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Programs.

Ensure a safe and incident-free work environment including methodologies, initiatives and strategies that promote safe operations, safety awareness, training, and continuous improvement to eliminate or control unsafe behaviors, environments and hazards

Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

How You’ll Do It

Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and Discover performance standards; Develop, implement and maintain safety programs to meet OSHA and Discover requirements; Oversee regulatory compliance audits/inspections and associated record keeping (EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory governing bodies, etc.); Deliver EH&S programs to train employees in work site safety practices by promoting and leading a culture where Safety is ingrained as a core value with all employees.

Establishes baseline measures for Company losses from illness, injuries and accidents by major location; Collaborates with employees to identify and implement solutions to safety issues identified in inspections and investigations to eliminate incidents and preventing recurrence; Reviews incident and injury reporting and analyzes data to identify trends.

Drives key effective, sustainable implementation of corporate EH&S initiatives, strategies, programs and procedures, responsibilities via hands on leadership, coaching and teamwork; Facilitate, train and coach employees from onboarding to OSHA required annual training, safety audits and other safety related topics to ensure compliance with government mandated training; Analyze EH&S programs, conditions and behaviors and recommends changes to continuously improve companywide EH&S performance.

Responsible for the assessment of the Company position relative to health and safety needs and document the requirements the company and its vendors must follow; Compliance with regulations and Company policies by routinely interacting with employees.

Provides key support with all sites Environmental policies and procedures; Provides EH&S functional and technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function. Effectively coaches and develops facility site managers and coordinators to be effective EH&S leaders/coaches; Ensure rules and regulations are applied and notifies the business of the changes; Leads and ensures thorough investigation of all incidents, in coordination with Site leadership.

Fosters/develops a culture where everyone is actively engaged in performing their work in a safe manner and co-workers hold each other accountable to prevent at risk behaviors.

Collaborates with other key functions on initiatives including Facilities, Engineering, HR, Corporate Communications, Quality, Risk, Operations, etc. to deliver goals and plans. In partnership with HR supports HR and Insurance with worker’s compensation claims.

Qualifications You’ll NeedThe Basics

Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences, Engineering or related field

5+ years of experience working in a safety and environmentally conscious manufacturing or industrial processing environment

Bonus Points If You Have

Master’s Degree in Sciences, or related field

Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
