Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.About the RoleThe Virtual Product Development division has an opening for an Engineer in the Advanced fluid dynamics team. The Advanced Fluid Dynamics section is part of Virtual Product Development within Caterpillar’s Integrated Components and Solutions (ICS) division, focusing on high-end fluid dynamic simulations including multi-phase, transient flow over a range of applications. This position will be located at Caterpillar's Technical Center in Mossville, IL. As the primary system simulation and data analytics engineer on a small team you would be responsible for planning, building, and executing advanced system (1D) simulations on various Caterpillar products and components. The position will also be processing complex datasets, statistical analyses, segmentation, composite profile synthesis and supporting high-fidelity simulations of advanced power systems. You will then communicate these results to various internal and external stakeholders via sophisticated reporting and visualization tools that you will manage and continuously improve.​What You Will Do

​​Perform different types of system simulations, Able to perform digital signal processing, data analytics, system simulation

Oversee project management while interfacing with the Caterpillar internal business unit in support of commercial projects involving deep data analysis and power system simulations

Manage and execute development assignments without close supervision

Perform fluid and thermal, data analytics and system simulations at request of machine business units to assess and optimize performance goals for energy consumption, environmental impact, and total cost of ownership

Develop simulation plans, build and execute simulation models, analyze and report results and provide recommendations back to the Caterpillar business unit Team, Cat Dealers and customers. Responsible for analyzing test data to determine appropriate work cycle boundary conditions for the model.

Degree Requirements

MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering in related field of study.

Other Requirements

Fluid dynamic, advanced data analytics and Multiphysics-based simulations as a part of their graduate studies or as part of a prior job in industry

Perform system level simulation using commercial software (like Amesim or GT-suite), experience working directly on data analysis using Python and Experience with 3-D CFD simulation software

Top Candidates will also have:

PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering in a related field of study

Experience with the following engineering tools and techniques:

System Simulation + Model-Based System Engineering tools

Siemens Amesim, GT Suite, MatLab, etc.

3D CAD software (Creao, Ideas, NX etc.)

App development and maintenance using Amesim PyQt and Python API

Data Science / Analytics

Digital signal processing theory

Siemens Test.Lab/Neo digital signal processing and analysis

Python software coding

Knowledge of python modules (Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn)

K-means clustering, principal component analysis (PCA)

Additional beneficial experiences and skillsets:

Knowledge of and design for vessel power and propulsion systems and their constituent powertrain and hydraulic components

Knowledge of multi-phase and fluid structure interaction type simulations

Experience with 3-D CFD simulation software (STARCCM+, Fluent, etc.)

Test/experiment background
