Job DescriptionThe IMCO (International Marketing Commercial Operations) & IMAP (International Market Access and Pricing) Senior Counsel position acts as legal counsel to the IMCO & IMAP leadership team and is responsible for providing strategic legal advice on a variety of healthcare-related legal, market access, pricing and reimbursement, regulatory and compliance issues governing on-market and pipeline products, with a primary focus on key strategic priorities for the organization. The scope of the role is global. In addition, as a member of the Global Therapeutic International Legal team, partners with the Area (Europe and Intercontinental) legal leaders as peers to ensure proper and smooth execution of the legal, commercial, and cross-functional strategies.Responsibilities:

Active participation to the IMCO/IMAP leadership and strategic meetings

Strategic support to the IMCO/IMAP commercial (Immunology, Oncology and Specialty VPs and GMs), Medical Affairs and functional leadership on a variety of legal matters impacting key priorities

In coordination with the IMCO leadership, strategically prioritizes its own workload and shapes the workload of the team, ensuring consistent focus on key priorities such as product launches, regulatory approaches, price and reimbursement procedures, integration of new assets and portfolio management

As a member of the Global Therapeutic International Legal team, reporting to the Legal International VP, partners with the Area (Europe and Intercontinental) Legal Leaders to ensure proper and smooth execution of the legal, commercial, and cross-functional strategies. Supports the affiliate teams on a case-by-case basis and engages with Area, Region and Affiliate leaders to define implementation of these strategies.

Where key strategic or unanticipated issues arise impacting more than one affiliate, often leads coordination across affiliate and other attorneys to successfully resolve (e.g., Rinvoq labeling & access challenges globally due to Article 20 label change)

Works with Legal Regulatory team to support significant regulatory challenges that arise internationally

Leads a team of one or two Senior Counsels who are responsible to supporting specific therapeutic areas and relevant projects

Develops the team by continuously offering opportunities to work on key projects beyond their area of responsibility. In partnership with the Area Senior Counsels, provides opportunities to the Legal International team to develop and work on key priorities for the IMCO and IMAP organization.

Supervising the IMCO Legal team, manages and directs the work of outside counsel and the relevant budget.

Keeps abreast of changes in laws and policy that affect the area of responsibility and proactively assesses potential impact and elaborates, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, strategies to maximize opportunities and/or mitigate risks.

Elaborates strategies to protect key brand story, messages and narrative and manages competitive landscape (for example through intercompany dialogue) to ensure level playfield, in collaboration with the International Legal and key stakeholders

Acts as a role model and conducts activities in full compliance with the law, regulations, policies/procedures, and AbbVie’s Code of Conduct.

Qualifications

Law degree from an ABA accredited law school and in good standing with the state bar of the jurisdiction in which your office will be located (or ability to gain licensure in the state in which your office will be located)

Minimum 10 years of relevant experience within life sciences sector

Experience with Healthcare Compliance/ Promotion/Market Access/Managed Health Care/Pricing and Reimbursement/Regulatory laws, regulations and policies

Excellent business acumen and communication skills

Ability to work with Senior Leaders, understanding of a matrix organization
