Description We are offering a short term contract employment opportunity for a Payroll Accountant in Chicago, Illinois. This role is pivotal in managing all aspects of payroll within our organization. The Payroll Accountant will ensure the accurate and timely processing of all payroll transactions, maintain payroll tax and benefits-related accruals, and reconcile payroll sub-ledger to the general ledger.Responsibilities: Prepare and execute payroll activities with precision and punctuality. Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and perform monthly variance analysis. Maintain compliance with current government regulations regarding payroll. Process accurate and timely quarterly and year-end reporting. Develop and implement payroll procedures and controls to ensure efficient operation. Collaborate with Human Resources and Accounting to address all payroll-related issues. Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries accurately. Assist with internal and external audits by preparing assigned schedules and providing necessary documentation. Address payroll tax issues and prepare reports for state, local, and federal authorities. Perform other related duties as assigned by management. Requirements Proficiency in managing payroll taxes with accuracy and timeliness. Experience in handling payroll garnishments in compliance with federal and state laws. Ability to conduct salary surveys to ensure competitive compensation and benefits. Demonstrated knowledge of salary structures and their application in payroll management. Proficiency in managing time and attendance records to ensure accurate payroll calculation. Strong understanding of deductions and withholdings, and the ability to accurately apply them in payroll processing. Excellent numerical and analytical skills for accurate payroll calculation. Strong understanding of federal and state laws related to payroll accounting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with employees and management regarding payroll matters. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate and timely payroll management. Proficiency in using payroll software and other related IT systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll information. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred. Relevant certification such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) will be an advantage.
