Company: J&J Construction of Illinois

Location: Aurora and surrounding suburbs

Specialty: Residential remodeling – kitchens, bathrooms, and additions

Job Description:

J&J Construction is seeking a skilled and dedicated Lead Carpenter for hands-on work and to oversee home remodeling projects. The company is growing and we are looking to add to our staff. As a design-build remodeling firm with over 30 years of success, we specialize in delivering high-quality kitchen, bathroom, and home addition renovations. This role involves hands-on physical work and requires a proactive, grounded professional who is ready to work, lead and problem-solve in the field. Ideal candidates are those who remain focused on project success and foster a collaborative, distraction-free environment.

This is a non-smoking environment. A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required.

Responsibilities:

Hands-On Work: You will be responsible for performing hands-on, physical work independently, unless assistance is needed for safety reasons. This includes demo work, light electrical, plumbing, minor framing, some drywall repair, some painting, and trim carpentry. You will also handle the installation of fixtures, cabinets, accessories, and other finishes, as well as the setup and cleanup of the site to ensure a clean, organized, protected workspace.

Daily Operations: Oversee daily site operations to ensure projects run smoothly, on schedule, and meet high standards of quality. Coordinate and supervise subcontractors for multiple concurrent jobs.

Quality Assurance: Conduct regular site inspections, manage punch lists, and complete final walkthroughs to ensure client satisfaction and adherence to project specifications.

Problem-Solving & Communication: Proactively identify and address issues, manage expectations, and provide updates to management and the office. Serve as the primary field contact during the construction phase.

Inventory & Maintenance: Handle job site deliveries, maintain an organized work truck, manage materials and tools, and handle general maintenance or repairs as needed.

Requirements:

Experience: Minimum of 5 years in home remodeling, with strong technical skills and attention to detail.

Physical Capability: Ability and willingness to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 100 lbs.

Skills: Proficient in reading blueprints, using hand and power tools, and handling budgeting and cost estimation (a plus). Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Transportation & Licenses: Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Professionalism: Neat and groomed appearance, punctuality, and a positive attitude. This is a non-smoking environment.

If you’re looking for hands-on work and are passionate about remodeling, customer satisfaction, and working with a dedicated, grounded team, we encourage you to apply and be part of our next successful project at J&J Construction.
