Job Description

JOIN US for a JOB FAIR at Near North Montessori, on Tuesday, February 13th, from 9 am to 10 am! We'll be interviewing for our 2024 Summer Camp roles - see below for a job description.

Meet us at Near North Montessori School, at 1434 West Division St. (between Greenview & Cleaver) by entering through the glass doors on Division. You'll need to ring the bell for entry. Please bring a resume & be ready to discuss your interest in this exciting summer opportunity!

Summer is a great time for children to play, discover and explore! Near North Montessori’s Summer @NNM Camp is designed to stimulate campers' minds, bodies, and spirits, to create lasting memories while strengthening their skills and interests in a Montessori environment. We are seeking candidates for our Camp Counselor positions to work in our 2024 Summer Camp and guide and support our campers throughout the summer!

Summer Camp @NNM runs from mid-June 2024 through mid-August 2024. Multiple shifts are available, and shifts can fall anywhere between 8 am and 6 pm, Monday through Saturday. These positions can be full- or part-time, and will be temporary positions.

The Near North Montessori (NNM) Summer Camp program is designed to provide hands-on learning to all applicants. Summer Camp Counselors will develop professional skills to utilize in future jobs including communication, executive functioning, working in diverse environments, punctuality, and independence, along with other positive, job-related competencies.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Assist in the implementation of daily activities and program plans under the direction of the Programs Director or Programs Coordinator

Maintain a close working relationship with the Programs Director or Programs Coordinator: attend all scheduled planning meetings, regularly discuss the needs of the campers, evaluate mutual expectations, and review work being done

Assist in the daily operations of the Summer Camp

Help ensure safe drop-off and pick-up of campers

Assist in cleaning and maintenance of camp environment

Assist with implementation, preparation and clean-up of daily activities

Assist in the preparation of healthy snacks for campers, being aware of and accommodating any camper food allergies and other health concerns

Assist in preparation and restoration of camp environment

Represent "the face of camp" for campers and families

Be visible throughout daily camp activities, interacting with campers and families while promoting the Summer Program's mission

Be committed to quality interaction with campers, adhering to school policies and protocol

Work closely with Summer Camp Staff

Communicate with camp supervisors, instructors and other staff regarding camper needs

Work with camp supervisors, instructors and other staff to implement daily activities

Be flexible, open and responsive to changes in staffing assignments, based upon the changing needs of the Summer Program

Notify camp supervisors, instructors and other staff immediately if any questionable or potentially harmful circumstances that threaten the safety of any campers

Notify camp supervisors, instructors and other staff of any absences

Perform all duties as assigned by camp supervisors, instructors and other staff

Assist in various programs to provide support to staff or children as needed and requested

Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested

Qualifications:

Ability to consistently deliver a high level of professionalism among staff, administration, parents, and other school constituents

Ability to communicate with diverse groups of people

Ability to take initiative and maintain a task-oriented mindset

Ability to provide high level of support and assistance with the ability to juggle multiple tasks with changing priorities

Genuine love for and interest in working with children and/or education

Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic, and a high level of energy and enthusiasm each day

Flexibility to meet changing needs and demands while balancing multiple tasks

Ability to work collaboratively on a team, with an openness to feedback and a desire to grow professionally

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Great communication skills, both written and verbal

Must be at least 16 years of age by June 1, 2024

CPR/First Aid certification preferred but not required. General safety and other related training will be provided.

Additional Information:

Full-time temporary and part-time temporary employment to start in mid-June 2024 for the 2024 summer camp term. Employment will end in mid-August 2024. Eligible for an hourly salary starting at $20 per hour. Will also be eligible for:
