Position: The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a Source Water Analyst, Analyst 2 for the Drinking Water Protection and Finance Division at the State Office located in Boise, Idaho. Salary Range: $25.95 - $29.43 Responsibilities: · Geosciences Team and Technical Services Support:
Track and coordinate functions in the source water assessment process such as maintaining the Groundwater (GW) Bureau‘s tracking spreadsheet for source water assessments (SWAs) and adding and maintaining the source water protection folders in DEQ’s electronic file database.
Coordinate with the GW Bureau geosciences team, regional offices, and Technical Services staff to ensure documents such as delineations and modeling reports are complete, correct, and entered by the deadlines established.
Perform quality assurance to verify and correct source locations and tag information prior to notifying GW Bureau geosciences team to perform delineations.
Coordinate with the Technical Services GIS staff and hydrogeologists in the GW Bureau geosciences team on tracking and reviewing the potential contaminant inventory.
Assemble documents in preparation for potential contaminant inventory scoring and resolve any documentation issues.
Draft reports for review by the regional office staff and public water system (PWS) owner/operators and coordinates reviews.
Maintain and enhance the SWA online application and ensure it is updated and that enhancements are working properly.
· Groundwater Support:
Assist with GW monitoring projects, helping regional office staff in nitrate priority area field sampling activities, entering monitoring data and information into the GW Quality Database, and drafting related reports.
Assist the GW Bureau by compiling data, populating tables, conducting quality assurance and quality control reviews of data, analyzing data, preparing maps and graphs, and drafting and reviewing summaries for the annual monitoring report.
· Education and Outreach Activities:
Maintain the Idaho Source Water Collaborative Website.
Offer logistical support, conduct education and outreach activities such as STEM and WET events, and assist with training/educational workshops for PWS operators and local government officials.
Coordinate source water protection (SWP) education and outreach events with the Idaho Rural Water Association.
· Source Water Protection Support:
Assist with maintaining and enhancing SWP applications and provide assistance to PWS operators in using the SWP Plan Template and the SWP Activity Guide Application.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in a physical or biological science, political science, business or public administration, a related natural resource management field, engineering,
OR: Any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a typical four (4) year Bachelor's degree.
For example: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty-four (24) credited hours in a subject required for the particular degree, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or work experience performing routine activities in sampling, monitoring, surveillance, field inspection, compliance and enforcement activities for at least two (2) years can substitute for one (1) year of college.AND, a minimum of two (2) years experience performing routine duties in completing multiple tasks such as policy research, data collection, interpretation, analysis, and preparation of reports and written documents.
OR: Possession of a Master's degree in any of the above fields.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time
Ability to bend and reach for filing purposes
Some periods of heavy reading and typing are required
Ability to lift 30 pounds when working with file boxes
Ability to climb ladders, staircases, work on uneven terrain
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds over rough terrain
Ability to work in adverse or inclement weather
