Mechanical Drafter/Designer

The PPS Mechanical Drafter/Designer drafts and provides design support for the sales team and fabrication shop. The specialist ensures drawings and SolidWorks models conform to project specifications per configurations and customer specification plans. The position also ensures that the drawings are accurate, readable, and professional looking. The person is also responsible for organizing and keeping their area clean. The position is self-directed and collaborative. The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure our customers get the best products possible.

Essential Job Functions:

Designs customized pumping systems based on customer specifications.

Create drawings from the model and design specifications of the pumping system using SolidWorks 3D modeling software.

Utilize and understand customer specifications through layout, bills of material, configuration, final assembly and inspection.

Work with the inside sales team to produce material for customer presentations, marketing and customer submittals.

Work closely with Engineering, Sales, and Manufacturing teams to meet customer requirements and continually improve as per company quality standards.

Initiate process improvement to improve processes, improve quality, and reduce cost.

Ensure drawings are accurate by checking and rechecking configurations and spec plans. Use embedded checklists within SolidWorks.

Model pump stations per configurations (50%). Create drawings from models for customer presentation & submittals (10%). Create Build/Fabrication drawings (40%).

Required Education & Experience:

Minimum of 2 years direct experience with 3-D modeling software.

Experience reading and evaluating mechanical and panel specifications.

Attention to detail and understanding of mechanics.

Experience with designing and fabricating metal, pipe, and wiring systems is a plus.

Experience with quality and process improvement.

Process-driven and detail-oriented.

Leadership Responsibilities:

This position has some leadership responsibilities based on the nature of designing a product to meet customer specifications.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may, on occasion, be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to sit for extended amounts of time.

The position may involve lifting less +/- 20 pounds occasionally.

The employee may need to visit the fabrication shop to answer questions or solve problems.

Job Type:

This is a full-time position. The hours are Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm.
