Responsibilities of this Staff Attorney position include client representation in Family Law, (including divorce, divorce modification, paternity, restraining orders, child abuse and neglect, and some guardianships and adoptions), Public Assistance Benefits, Housing and Consumer Protection, and Senior/Kūpuna Legal Services. Staff Attorneys also participate in community engagement, outreach and education, statewide initiatives, and day-to-day oversight of non-attorney staff.
Requirements:
Member in good standing of the Bar of the State of Hawai'i are preferred. Applications from highly qualified individuals sitting for the July 2025 bar exam as well as attorneys licensed to practice in another state and eligible to practice in Hawai'i under Hawai'i Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 1.16 will be considered.
Demonstrable commitment to social justice and experience working with disadvantaged and/or low-income population strongly preferred.
Desire to develop litigation skills or litigation experience strongly preferred.
Able to work collaboratively and maintain good working relationships with diverse team of co-workers.
Humility in working with colleagues and clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and/or limited English proficiency.
Organizational skills to manage a busy practice, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks with attention to detail.
Strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision.
Excellent writing, editing, and proof-reading skills, with ability to be detail oriented.
Able to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner.
Basic computer skills required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office program (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams) strongly preferred.
