The Legal Aid Society of Hawaiʻi is Hawaiʻi’s oldest and largest non-profit public interest law firm with offices statewide. Through its dedicated staff, Legal Aid helps ensure justice and fairness for all by providing civil legal aid to the most vulnerable in our society.

Position: Full-Time Intake Attorney to assist clients through Legal Aid's intake services and legal hotline and to provide day-to day supervision of non-attorney intake staff. Primary duties include screening applicants for eligibility, completing applications, providing legal information, legal advice, and referrals. The Intake Attorney also provides day-to-day support and supervision to non-attorney intake staff, assists with training intake staff, review of completed applications. The Intake Attorney also works in collaboration with the Legal Content Developer on preparation of information resources for unrepresented litigants.

Requirements:

Member in good standing of the Bar of the State of Hawaii. Applications from highly qualified individuals licensed to practice in another state and eligible to practice under Rue 1.16 or 1.17 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Hawaii will be considered.

Demonstrable commitment to social justice or experience working with disadvantaged and/or low-income population, or issues affecting low-income populations strongly preferred.

Litigation experience and/or experience in one or more of Legal Aid’s practice areas strongly preferred.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Able to work in a fast paced-environment and to provide competent and compassionate supervision of non-attorney intake staff.

Works collaboratively and maintain good working relationships in a small diverse team.

Humility in working with colleagues and clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and/or limited English proficiency, a must.

Able to work under pressure in an empathetic and professional manner.

Basic computer skills required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office program (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams), strongly preferred.

Compensation: $54,171 - $71,175 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
