Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to serve ourl students in a school that is on the rise. In a rural area, this role is critical in ensuring that students with diverse learning needs receive the individualized support necessary to thrive both academically and personally.
The ideal candidate has a deep belief in the potential of every learner, a commitment to inclusive practices, and the ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Support
● Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs
● Provide small group and/or co-teaching support in core academic areas (e.g., math, ELA, science)
● Adapt and differentiate instruction to support a variety of learning styles and needs
● Use a hands-on, strengths-based approach to engage students and promote self-advocacy
● Regularly assess and monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
● Work collaboratively with general education teachers to ensure inclusive classroom environments
● Provide direct instruction in reading and math interventions where needed
Case Management & Compliance
● Maintain accurate and up-to-date IEPs, progress reports, and documentation
● Lead and participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and student support meetings
● Ensure full compliance with federal and state special education laws and regulations
● Coordinate services and accommodations in collaboration with school staff and external providers
School Culture & Community Engagement
● Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment where students feel known, valued, and loved
● Build strong relationships with families, maintaining open and regular communication
● Model empathy, patience, and a growth mindset in all student interactions
● Participate in school-wide events, professional development, and initiatives to improve student outcomes
● Advocate for equity, accessibility, and high expectations for all learners
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field (Master’s preferred)
● Valid Special Education certification in Hawaii or ability to obtain one
● Experience working with students in a variety of school settings, especially in a low-performing or high-need school
● Deep knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and inclusive practices
● Strong collaboration, organization, and communication skills
● Passion for educational equity and belief in the potential of every child
