Hawaii Technology Academy, a public charter school, seeks candidates for the position of Middle School Humanities Teacher (Distance Campus) for the 2024-2025 school year.
Candidates should have:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in English, History, Social Sciences, or Education;
- A minimum of three years of experience teaching a wide range of middle and/or upper school Social Studies, Language Arts, or Humanities courses;
- A Hawaii State Teacher’s license is preferred but not mandatory.
Preference is given to candidates with dual certification or language arts experience.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Providing online instruction to students in a variety of Social Studies and English courses that may include Wold history, Hawaiian History, and English Language Arts;
- Preparing courses and designing project-based lessons with a particular focus on delivery in a "virtual" or distance setting;
- Serving as a middle school advisor;
- Holding distance tutoring sessions with individual students and small groups;
- Organizing subject-specific field trips and projects;
- Designing enrichment workshops;
- Researching and developing best practices in virtual/distance learning Humanities curricula for middle school students;
- Working collaboratively with the administration and the Distance team; and
- Engaging in virtual and face-to-face community building, instructional events, field studies, and professional development as needed or directed.
Flexibility, creativity, and innovation stand at the heart of HTA’s program, so the ideal candidate will be versatile in skill sets and pedagogical approach to teaching and learning and preferably have experience in creating and delivering face-to-face and virtual courses. This position requires some inter-island travel, approximately two to three times per year for professional development. This is an HSTA 10-month position.
