This position oversees the hiring and training of staff members as well as implementing the quality assurance program. The ability to communicate with, lead, and motivate members is essential. Skills in establishing and maintaining strong working relationships is required. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties include:

Directing the activities of section members to ensure the general quality and efficiency of the work performed and establishing section priorities;

Directly supervising section personnel in the areas of case assignment, file review, performance appraisal, attendance and leave, training, resolution of technical and administrative issues, and other matters;

Monitoring adherence to the Forensic Science Quality Manual (FSQM), Laboratory Administrative Procedures Manual (LAPM), discipline SOP and accreditation requirements to ensure the highest level of quality work product;

Createing a collaborative working environment among section members and peer supervisors through open and effective communication;

Establishing and communicating job related performance goals and conducts performance appraisals;

Coordinating proficiency testing/performance monitoring and submiting results to external provider by the established deadline, as applicable; and

Performing timely line inspections to maintain the production of quality work and the integrity of evidence in a safe and secure working environment and conducting periodic inventories on evidence, property and personnel as required.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in forensic science, criminalistics or in a physical or natural science; completion of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Crime Laboratory Analyst training program (or a comparable training program); and three years of professional experience in a crime laboratory analyst class (or equivalent class).

Professional experience in one of the disciplines for which the position will supervise can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of FDLE’s Policies and Procedures, laboratory policies and accreditation requirements;

Knowledge of the principles and practices of quality assurance and quality control;

Knowledge of FDLE’s selection criteria;

Knowledge of purchasing procedures;

Skills in communicating with, leading, and motivating members;

Skills in appraising the performance of others;

Skills in communicating with the Chief of Forensic Services on laboratory and personnel matters;

Ability to monitor the quality of work product;

Ability to coordinate repairs, preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment; and

Ability to establish and maintain attendance and leave.

BASE SALARY:

$75,000.00

NOTES:

Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy. The elements of this selection process may include a work sample and/or interview. Future vacancies may be filled from this position advertisement.
