This is a full-time position that requires independent and complex administrative and consultative work which may include data entry, processing, research, and filing a variety of documents. The position provides coordination of the administrative activities within the Public Records Section by a ssisting department personnel and the public on issues relating to public records requests. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties include:

Assisting with legal issues related to the Department’s obligations under Chapter 119, Florida Statutes (the Public Records Law);

Conducting independent and complex research, procurement, analysis, and production of records;

Receiving and organizing records from various records systems directly from the program areas of the department;

Ensuring completeness of FDLE responses to public records requests by reviewing documents provided, pursuant to records searches conducted, to ascertain that responses address the specific nature of the requests;

Reviewing these records for all applicable exemptions under current Florida or federal law, and redacting exempt and confidential information before the records are released to the requestor, confirming exemptions claimed with Department’s legal staff as needed;

Assisting with record production in Capital Post Conviction cases pursuant to the Rules of Criminal Procedure and to ensure that records produced are filed with the records repository of the Department of State within the time requirements of the rule; and

The incumbent in this position assists with legal issues related to the Department’s obligations under Florida Statutes Chapters 27, 92, 119, 120, and 943.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the procedures and techniques for effective verbal and written communication;

Knowledge of Florida Statutes and Attorney General’s opinions as related to public records and dissemination of records to various entities;

Ability to read and understand criminal investigative and intelligence data;

Ability to collect, evaluates, analyze and summarize criminal investigative and intelligence data;

Ability to review large amounts of criminal investigative and intelligence data and determine the significance completeness and usefulness of the data;

Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and complete work assignments;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;

Ability to work independently; and

Ability to keep detailed records and notes.

BASE SALARY:

$41,200.00

BACKGROUND:

FDLE requires an extensive background process of all recommended applicants.
