The incumbent in this position will often travel and work throughout the region in a state vehicle. The home office location will be determined by the proximity of the nearest suitable location from the applicant selected for the position. Salary Rate: $52,558.74 SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as one of the departments four regional communications coordinators by supporting the functions and mission of the Office of Communications at the regional level.

Proactively plan, coordinate, and facilitate media visits inside correctional institutions and probation offices within the assigned region for the purpose of gathering positive press coverage.

Process, schedule, and facilitate media requests for inmate interviews.

Work with correctional institutions, probation offices and program offices within the assigned region to gather information and formulate draft responses for the media as assigned.

Create social media content (photos, videos, graphics) for FDC Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other emerging platforms.

Maintain and utilize provided equipment to obtain high quality photos and videos to draft social media posts, internal content, weekly newsletter submissions and promotional content.

Respond to correctional institutions or probation offices to coordinate media presence following an emergency or unexpected event.

Conduct recorded interviews with staff, inmates, and volunteers for agency news publications.

Perform secondary duties to support regional communications related functions such as compiling reports, writing talking points or statements and coordinating public record requests.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Demonstrate the ability to write and respond proficiently within a set deadline.

Knowledge of the criminal justice system and function of state prisons in Florida.

Familiarity with compiling and editing of videos and scripts.

Work proactively to produce a high volume of content in a timely manner.

Ability to conduct interviews for internal news purposes.

Ability to work in a confidential law enforcement environment.

Familiarity with government and law enforcement usage of social media.

Ability to operate well under pressure, manage multiple projects, and positively contribute to a team environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with at least one year of professional work experience in communications.

Four years of professional work experience in a communications or public relations role can substitute for a four-year degree.

Knowledge of AP style, exceptional writing skills and professional experience in writing and correspondence.

Willingness to function across FDCs organizational structure by providing excellent customer service skills and communication and public relations expertise wherever needed.

A valid drivers license, ability to travel, work remotely and work during non-standard office hours as needed.
