Duties and Responsibilities

This is a responsible, high-level Accountant IV that works independently and with other accountants in the bureau. This position is authorized to audit payroll to prepare the monthly and supplemental payrolls. This position is responsible for ensuring all members are paid correctly. This position audits records in FLAIR system after payroll has posted to ensure accuracy. This position works with HSMV members to explain any differences. Responsible for validating Personnel Action Requests (PARs) received from the Bureau of Personnel (BPS). This position is responsible for the collection of overpayments from members due to leave of absence (LOA) and/or leave without pay (LWOP).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work independently as well as with a team.

Knowledge of State of Florida payroll and accounting policies and procedures.

Knowledge of basic arithmetic, office procedures and practices.

Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work assignments.

Ability to use sound judgement to identify problems, generate and evaluate alternative solutions, and make recommendations.

Be a self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage completing deadlines.

Skill in auditing, reviewing, reconciling or analyzing data for compliance with regulatory requirements, policies and procedures.

Skill in using Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel and Outlook.

Skill in communicating effectively with internal and external customers, both orally and in writing.

Skill in coordinating work assignments as well as establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with others.

Skill in using Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel and Outlook.

Skill in using the Florida Accounting Information Resource (FLAIR) system and People First system.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience providing customer service that includes providing guidance, handling complaints or problem resolution.

Experience using a payroll information management system or human resource information management system (e.g., Florida Accounting Information Resource [FLAIR] system, People First system, etc.).

Experience using spreadsheets for reporting or data calculation purposes.

Experience in processing payroll transactions

Job Related Requirements

The position you are applying is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes. Please note that, since this position requires CJIS clearance, the Department will have access to all an applicant’s criminal and juvenile delinquency records, even those that have been sealed or expunged.

General Information

The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.

Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.

FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
