GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASSThis is advanced technical and lead work performing all aspects of materials handling operation including, inventory control basics, emergency preparations procedures, and understanding the customer needs of the warehouse. This classification works independently, coordinating daily tasks with co-workers and in warehouse facilities, and reports to a designated Supervisor/Superintendent of Stores. This individual will have “lead” responsibilities in areas of the warehouse and may exercise supervision over a small number of subordinate employees involved in similar activities. An employee in this position is expected to operate within prescribed procedures with minimum supervision following general instructions issued by an administrative superior. This position requires a high level of experience, parts knowledge, database experience and ability to lead others. Work performance is reviewed through observation and reports. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Assists in the operation and supervision of the warehouse and participates in receipt, storage, and issuance activities, involving supplies, materials, equipment and spare parts.

Responsible for training and evaluation of lower level personnel; functions as the lead worker in all assigned areas of warehouse; provides instructions and guidance and designates work assignments to warehouse employees.

Reviews, cross checks and verifies various transactions for accuracy and non-redundancy, including stock orders, inventory receipts, stock movement sheets, and new inventory and overstock locations; performs return and credit transactions as needed.

Analyzes and reviews material requests and works orders that are distributed to warehouse personnel to ensure correct materials and equipment have been requested for fulfillment and delivery.

Assists in the development and maintenance of internal procedures to ensure the efficient operation of the warehouse.

Completes material request forms for internal customers for the purchase of parts and materials.

Point of contact between Warehouse and outside contractors

Monitors and distributes email requests received in the “Account CS Warehouse” inbox.

Responsible for distribution of parts and materials requested by internal customers.

Assists in the coordination of warehouse(s) and all other personnel in preparation for emergencies.

Responsible for following all department and organizational policies and procedures to perform all job duties safely and effectively.

Designates work assignments.

May be used for emergency call-out and standby.

May work extended hours and shift work during storm related events or as assigned.

May be required to respond to emergency and non-emergency conditions or work outside assigned work hours to meet operational needs.

Position is Mission Critical.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

Leads a small number of employees in similar functional areas.

Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE) AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A high school diploma from an accredited school or GED.

Four (4) years of experience in warehouse operations to include automated inventory control systems.

One (1) year of supervisory experience.

One (1) year of experience in working with and knowledge of electrical utility materials/parts.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities and other competencies necessary for success in the target position may be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Must possess and maintain valid telephone or cell phone.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to use and maintain an automated inventory control system, to input data in a highly accurate and timely manner.

Knowledge of majority of the job functions in a warehouse environment.

Knowledge of receiving, issuing, storage and storekeeping methods and practices.

Knowledge of parts, materials, supplies and general commodities.

Knowledge of storeroom operating methods and procedures.

Knowledge of purchasing and requisitioning procedures.

Ability to perform “lead” responsibilities in major areas of warehouse.

Ability to maintain records and prepare reports upon request.

Ability to perform arithmetic computations quickly and accurately.

Ability to work under pressure and maintain a high level of accuracy.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to perform other work requiring good physical condition, strength and agility.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, City employees and the general public.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May require occasional heavy manual work that involves walking or standing, exerting up to 100 pounds of force, lifting up to 70 pounds and repetitive keyboarding.

May require climbing stairs, ladders, stooping, stretching, reaching and bending.

May be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, adverse weather conditions, noxious odors, heights, bright/dim lights and wet/humid conditions.
