Schooner Appledore II is seeking to hire liveaboard deckhands who are enthusiastic about learning and have a strong work ethic. This opportunity provides an excellent steppingstone for accumulating sea time, maintenance experience, and sailing expertise.
Appledore II operates as a day sailing ship, spending half the year in Camden, ME and half in Key West, FL. While in Maine, the vessel conducts three 2-hour day sails and one 2-hour sunset sail daily, and while in Key West, it conducts one 2-hour day sail and one 2-hour sunset sail daily. Day sails typically consist of 50% sailing and 50% bartending, and deckhands should be personable and eager to share their knowledge of the ship and its operations with passengers.
Our current hiring needs are for individuals who can complete the season in Key West, then transit the ship north to Maine. There is also potential to continue working aboard in Maine, working 4-5 days per week as a liveaboard deckhand. In addition to working on sailing trips, responsibilities will include cleaning, painting, varnishing, safety and rigging inspections, and engine maintenance, among other duties. Compensation starts at a base pay of $350/week, in addition to significant tips.
This schooner provides an excellent opportunity to learn the basics and transition into other positions such as first mate, bosun, engineer, or captain.
