Hi! I'm paralyzed and I need your help!
When I was 24 I ran full speed and dove head first into the ocean, not realizing how shallow it was, causing a neck injury that has drastically changed my life. Simple self care things like hygiene, brushing my teeth, washing my face and hands, making and eating food, exercising, stretching, showering, changing clothes and transferring from bed to wheelchair, things that take the average person maybe an hour or two per day, require a significantly longer amount of time and effort for me.
I have a morning routine that takes roughly 8 hours, and I'm looking for someone reliable, caring, and capable to make life go smoothly. I don't require that you have any sort of Medical Training or experience, although if you do, it certainly wouldn't hurt.
Much of the job includes exercising and stretching my legs, so I've found that people who jog or run regularly tend to do really well with me. In 2017 I had 2 medical students who each ran marathons; the year and a half or so that they worked with me was the healthiest I've been since before my injury. If you work out and stretch regularly, like yoga or basically if you have a general, basic understanding of body mechanics and just how the body works, it really helps.
Over the past few years I've had all kinds of people do really well at this job, from nurses to students to immigrated doctors in their home countries, a teenage dog groomer, a 40-year-old Housewife, an Uber driver, an African War refugee, a bartender, a business owner; even a young guy who played video games his whole life and I was his first job; all of whom did really well and were a huge help. Some of them still work with me today, and all are still close friends.
All that really matters is that you're capable of helping me with my needs. I will teach you how to do everything with the assistance of one of my other helpers. We'll have you observe someone assist me with each task, then try it yourself.
The schedule is pretty flexible, I like to start around 9:00 a.m. and finish around 5:00 p.m. but we can adjust the hours to suit your availability / preference. We do 8 hours a day, $17 per hour, cash or zelle, 3 to 5 days per week; again, flexible to your preference and availability.
If you're interested in working with me, or if you know someone who might be, please email me your contact info, along with a short paragraph describing yourself and your interests; what sports or Hobbies you're into, and why you think you'd be a good fit for this job. If you have any experience assisting someone with physical disabilities; either for work or for a loved one, please include that as well.
Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks for your time!
