Position Summary: Florida Atlantic University - Boca Raton, FL, is seeking a talented and strategic Associate Director of Development Communications who serves as a primary writer and editor for the Division of Institutional Advancement, ensuring all donor stories and solicitation and stewardship materials meet the highest possible standards for editorial quality. The Associate Director will engage in the development of proposals, concept papers, impact stories and reports, campaign-related materials, and other writing that supports major gift initiatives; interview faculty, administrators, alumni, donors, students, and others, as necessary, to develop strong content and deepen the understanding of programs and priorities to develop proposals; and work to ensure, in partnership with FAU’s Division of Public Affairs, a consistent brand message for Institutional Advancement, Florida Atlantic, and its colleges and units through written materials.Summary of Responsibilities include:

Serves as a primary writer and editor for the Division of Institutional Advancement, ensuring all solicitation and stewardship materials meet the highest possible standards for editorial quality while conveying a consistent brand message. In collaboration with the Division’s leadership, development officers, deans, faculty, and staff, the Associate Director’s main responsibility is to develop customized proposals for individual, corporate, and foundation donors and creative communication for internal and external stakeholders to foster awareness of the impact of giving and inspire philanthropy.

Manages the proposal development process from inception through submission. Organizes research, conducts interviews, writes, edits, obtains necessary approvals, measures results, and adjusts as needed. Oversees routing of proposals among appropriate University constituents.

Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to write and edit content for development communications, including case statements, impact statements, summaries of research and signature programs, key messages and talking points, and other giving-related writing needs, in accordance with accepted stylistic standards, to support Advancement Communications.

Edits solicitation and stewardship materials.

Identifies story ideas, writes letters, donor stories, articles, and other traditional and digital communication pieces focused on the significance of philanthropy and engagement with Florida Atlantic.

Writes and updates copy for the Institutional Advancement website and other electronic platforms focused on the impact of giving to Florida Atlantic.

Ensures quality control of written materials for the Institutional Advancement Division.

Communicates directly with Communications staff on project status, needs, and expected deadlines.

Works with College development officers on developing communication tools to assist in fundraising for their college/unit.

Provides leadership support to student interns.

Keeps abreast of fundraising and communication best practices.

Protects confidential information.

Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
