Walter L. Phillips, Inc. is an established land development engineering firm that provides services to clients in the northern Virginia / Washington DC metropolitan area. We currently have a job opening for a highly motivated candidate with strong design and communication skills to join our multidisciplinary team as a landscape designer/certified arborist. The successful candidate will perform professional level landscape architectural work and is expected to ensure compliance with local regulations and codes. Key assignments include planning, landscape conservation plans, tree inventory and assessments, reforestation plans and grading plans.

You will be considered for this position by demonstrating these minimum qualifications:

Education requirement:

BS or BLA and/or MLA from an accredited college or university with major course work in Landscape Architecture or related field, and at least three years of progressively responsible experience in professional landscape architecture / arboriculture which has included design and project management duties.

Skills required:

3-5 years of relevant experience, (license desired).

Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications is required. Working knowledge of other software, including Photoshop, Sketch-Up, and In Design is desired.

Strong technical skills and a good general knowledge in plant material including nursery stock and native plants/trees.

International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certification or ability to become certified within 6 months.

Project management experience including preparing written and oral reports for management, clients and municipalities.

Make clear, concise and effective oral presentations.

Creative problem-solving, resourcefulness, good judgment, and good humor.

Time management skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask and work independently.

Portfolio of work that demonstrates good conceptual design ability and ecological approach to landscape design.
