Description of JobAbout the Work UnitThe Office of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (OMMIR) was established in 2022 and exists to serve as a liaison on behalf of the indigenous community on issues related to missing or murdered indigenous relatives. To achieve this goal, the unit conducts the following statewide activities:

Develops and enhances partnerships with Tribal Law Enforcement and communities;

Collaborates with any relevant entities, including the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs, federally recognized tribes, indigenous-led organizations, tribal and local law enforcement agencies, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Colorado State Patrol;

Appointments and collaborative support of the Community Volunteer Advisory Board;

Provides information to families on how to report a missing or murdered loved one;

Collaborates with state and local partners to develop training and education.

Helps connect families with resources;

Reporting out and responding to questions from the legislature and the general public.

With the OMMIR Director, this position will conduct training, give speaking engagements and education for awareness for the OMMIR across the State at various times and locations. Advocates for MMIR relatives seeking information regarding missing and murdered relatives, follows up, provides information, and recommendations and options for support. This position is responsible for prompt response to requests, follow up with the requestor, and maintain organized records for each case. This position will be flexible to additional job duties as it relates to OMMIR and ongoing developments to MMIR movement. Key ResponsibilitiesServes as point of contact for families in need of assistance with ongoing or completed missing or murdered indigenous relatives cases. Receives requests, seeks information, and shares with MMIR relatives. Provides information regarding resources for relatives. With the OMMIR Director, this position will conduct training, give speaking engagements and education for awareness for the OMMIR across the State at various times and locations. This position will be flexible to additional job duties as it relates to OMMIR and ongoing developments to MMIR movement.Works with all local and state law enforcement, District Attorney’s Offices in each judicial district, and assigned victim services coordinator / advocate. Works with the two federally recognized tribes in Colorado and grassroots organizations across the state.Creates and maintains strong relationships with those communities, visits and provides awareness training, presents available resources.Works in different environments (both hybrid office-based and in the community), at times best suited to the community (including some evenings and weekends). Maintains appropriate documentation, data records and ensures that all reporting requirements are adhered to as outlined by DCJ and the OMMIR Director for every interaction. Other duties/special projects as assigned as well.Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsNOTE: To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the following options for consideration.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Six (6) years of professional experience in social services and public health.ORTwo (2) years of professional experience in social services and public health and a Ba chelor's degree in any field.REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position will work within a hybrid model with a minimum of two days in the office.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam and fingerprint based criminal history search.
