Description of JobSummary of Job Classification:Provides supervision, oversight, support, mentorship, and training for probation staff. Assists in forming, communicating, and implementing procedures and policies. May monitor division or program/promotional level budget and expenditures.Essential Functions:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform assigned essential functions listed below satisfactorily. Monitors data integrity, corrects coding errors, and analyzes caseload reports.Assesses, prioritizes and responds to critical incidents and potential risks in the field and office. De-escalates hostile/agitated clients and potentially violent situations.Acts as a mediator between clients, employees, and outside agencies to resolve conflict and problem solve issues. Collaborates with the court, community stakeholders, partners, and other agencies. Attends and/or facilitates meetings and serves on local and state level committees to develop and implement programming.Performs administrative functions including reviewing and approving time sheets and PTO and ensuring compliance with Fair Labor Standards.Assists in the development, implementation, and oversight of policies, procedures, and special programs for the Probation Department.Performs other duties as assigned.Additional Comments:The 13th Probation Department is also posting a .5 progressive job series probation officer/senior probation officer position that could be acquired with this .5 supervisor position to make a full-time position. Physical Effort Requirements:Medium Work- Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.Work Environment:Disagreeable - Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.Work Location:Office or similar indoor environment; jail environment.Exposures:Individuals who are hostile or irate; individuals with known violent backgrounds; communicable diseases; bodily fluids.Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsEducation and Experience Equivalency:Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.ORAdditional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal education.Work Related Experience:3 or more years of supervisory experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology, or similar field.ORSuccessful completion of the Colorado Judicial Department Orientation to Supervision/Management course or Judicial Executive Development Institute (JEDI) may be substituted for supervisory experience.
