Pay Range - $25.87 - $30.43/hr
Position Purpose
Performs basic preventive maintenance to fleet vehicles and equipment under direct supervision and transports Police Department vehicles from Sector Stations to City shops and outside vendors for maintenance, repair and warranty work.

Essential Job Functions
Inspects vehicles to determine need for changing oils and filters and provide feedback to customers.
Performs oil checks on transmissions and ensures that they are brought up to the required levels.
Greases bearings, examines repairs and overhauls brake systems according to set standards.
Locates and corrects malfunctions such as wheel bearings issues and ignition problems by using dedicated electronic tools.
Tunes automobile engines to ensure that they function efficiently and handle repairs and maintenance on service components including air conditioners and condensers.
Removes and replaces vehicle leaf springs, tail pipes and mufflers.
Ascertains that tire pressure is properly maintained and handles tire rotation and installation duties.
Installs new oil filters and drain plugs. Ensures that old ones can still be used and are properly cleaned and maintained.
Cleans and lubricates fittings and refills fluid levels.
Handles battery replacement and recharging activities and ensures that old batteries are properly disposed of.
Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City.

Ability to work in a law enforcement facility.
Ability to prioritize and organize time.
Ability to read and understand SDS sheets on chemicals and fluids.
Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
License & Certification
Forklift operator’s license.
A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.

Automotive preventative maintenance experience.

Other Qualifications
Formal automotive training.
Physical Demands
Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
Hazards
Marginal to moderate exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
Work Environment
Exposure to routine office noise and equipment.
