Military/Government Affairs Committee Coordinator

Coordinates both Defense Council and Government Affairs Committee for Chamber

members to participate and gain knowledge. Duties are:Serves as primary point of contact for all military affairs issues.

Serves as the primary point of contact for the Defense Council Executive

Committee

o Develops agenda.

o Plans and executes annual retreat/planning meeting.

o Establishes a special interest area that the committee/council can focus

on throughout the year (i.e., homeless veterans, Aurora Veterans

Court, Colorado Freedom Memorial)

o Conducts monthly meetings.

o Writes and sends out meeting notes.

o Ensures committee is staffed/represented appropriately.

o Identifies and trains chair and vice chair.

Through the Defense Council Executive Committee, responsible for

ensuring the Defense Council is focused on achieving the following goals:

o Take care of the Troops

o Educate and develop business to expand the economic interest of the

defense industry.

o Improve professional collaboration between the civilian and military

community.

o Develop a stronger community awareness of the Defense Council/Defense

Industry and military contributions in the Metro area.

Plans and executes monthly Defense Council Meetings

o Coordinates with host organization and other military unit,

congressional, and community presenters.

o Identifies and coordinates with breakfast sponsors.

o Develops agenda.

o Creates event.

o Sends out invitations.

o Manages special access (Entry Authority Lists) requirements.

o Writes thank you notes to host and sponsors.

Monitors political issues that may have an impact on military units in

the area or diminish the ability of business to work successfully with the

military. Works with local military and local/state/federal leaders to

address issues/resolve the issues.

Monitors veterans' issues both locally and state-wide and recommends

selected legislation through the Executive Committee to the Chamber Board for

support.

Plans, organizes, and executes the Annual State of the Base

o Works with Aurora Rotary to plan event - although we do most of the work.

o Coordinates with Buckley Installation Commander to secure date and works

with Public Affairs and Protocol.

o Determines date, location, menu, AV support requirements.

o Signs contract and works with hotel on all details.

o Creates event and sends out email notifications.

o Determines sponsorship levels and ticket prices.

o Creates script in coordination with Aurora Rotary.

o Creates seating plan.

o Creates program.

o Creates name tents/name plates.

o Determines ballroom layout.Plans, organizes, and executes the Annual Armed Forces Recognition Luncheon

o Determines date, location, menu, AV support requirements.

o Signs contract with hotel and works with them directly on all details.

o Develops and sends out Award Nomination criteria.

o Creates event and sends our initial and follow-up email notifications.

o Forms an awards selection committee and develops scoring guidelines.

o Assembles nominations and photos for nomination committee.

o Compiles and sends out award finalist email.

o Secures keynote speaker and coordinates all protocol details with their

staff.

o Secures Sponsors - Title, VIP reception, AV, 13 awards, and tables.

o Creates power point presentation of award nominees/winners.

o Solicits donations for award winner goodie bags.

o Creates program with help from staff.

o Secures Joint Color Guard.

o Creates seating plan with help from staff,

o Orders awards.

o Creates name plates for head tables.

o Creates table tents with help from staff.

o Creates extensive script.

o Secures photographer.

o Secure Chaplain.

o Sends out VIP invitations.

o Works with sponsors to obtain names of award presenters.

o Obtains MC and Keynote speaker photos and biographies.

o Sends out thank you letters to sponsors.

o Creates press releases.

Attends the Association of Defense Communities forums.

Connects mi itary units with local support agencies.

Work with local aerospace, military, and veterans' organizations

(i.e., Colorado Springs Military Affairs Council, United Veterans

Coalition, Colorado Space Coalition, Colorado Space Business Roundtable,

Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Gold Star Families/Mothers,

Colorado Dept. of Military and Veterans Affairs, etc.)

Connects Chamber members with military leadership.

Meeting with potential members interested on being part of the Defense

Council

Represents the Chamber/Defense Council at various local

military/veteran events.

Prepares various reports, presentations, correspondence, and publications.

o U.S. Space Command Basing Study

o Air Force Space Command Community Support Award - won the award in 2017.

o Colorado Aerospace and Defense Economic Impact StudyKnowledge and Skills
