Are you a visionary leader with a passion for enhancing public spaces and connecting communities? The Parks and Recreation Department of Ventura is on the lookout for an inspiring individual to fill the role of Parks Manager.

The Parks Division provides park maintenance services for 46 parks covering over 800 acres including the City's open spaces, community and neighborhood parks, sports fields, beaches, community gardens, and the Ventura Aquatic Center. The Division also oversees golf services, the City’s new BAM! (Beautify and Maintain) team, and maintains over 32,000 street trees consisting of 323 tree varieties.

What You'll Do

As our Parks Manager, you will spearhead the planning, development, and maintenance of parks and public landscape areas throughout Ventura. You'll bring innovation and empowerment to the role, leading collaboratively with clear direction and best practice in parks and open spaces. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Ventura's community by ensuring the city's parks division thrives under your guidance.

Additionally, candidates should:

Be Organized: Demonstrate strong organizational skills and effective time management to handle various tasks and responsibilities efficiently.

Have Procurement Knowledge: Be familiar with purchasing and procurement processes, including managing contracts, creating and evaluating requests for proposals/bids, and overseeing contracted work, ensuring efficient resource management and project delivery.

Possess Strong Public Speaking Skills: Exhibit confidence and proficiency in public speaking, contributing to effective communication and engagement with diverse audiences.

Embrace Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders, and community members, leveraging collective expertise and resources to achieve common goals and objectives.

Position Qualifications

A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in public administration, park management, landscape architecture or related field

and four years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the planning, development and maintenance of parks, golf courses, aquatic facilities or other landscaped areas,

including two years of supervisory or management experience.

A Master's Degree in Parks and Recreation or Public Administration is highly desirable.

Certification by the California Board of Parks and Recreation and Recreation personnel is also desirable.

License: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California driver license may be required.

Salary and Benefits

The City offers a total compensation package that includes both a generous salary and other benefits!

SALARY: $108,131.09 - $144,896.54 Annually DOQ
