Job Title: Maintenance Crew Leader lll
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Crew Leader is a skilled, journey-level professional responsible for the oversight and execution of maintenance, repair, and operations for the District’s parks, facilities, seasonal dams, boat launches, vehicles, and equipment. This position provides direct supervision and leadership to maintenance personnel, ensures efficient daily operations, and reports to the District Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Provides leadership, oversight, and active participation in Park maintenance and construction tasks.
- Conducts routine and preventive maintenance inspections of parks, dams, vehicles, tools, and equipment; ensures adherence to District standards and policies and maintains accurate documentation.
- Manages the installation and disassembly of two seasonal flash board dams, adjacent boat launches, and two fish ladders.
- Ensuring timely submission of required Dept of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) Dam, Fish Ladder, and Tributary reports.
- Prepares monthly maintenance logs, vendor quotes, scopes of work, and material/labor cost breakdowns for District Manager.
- Manages the purchasing of parts and materials within maintenance budget; obtains prior administrative approval for any expenditures exceeding the allocated budget.
- Coordinates with vendors, subcontractors, architects, project managers, and engineers on District projects; inspects completed work to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards; verifies satisfactory completion for administrative processing and payment.
- Schedules and documents safety meetings; ensures compliance with safety regulations, conducts daily safety checks, and trains or schedules training for staff on proper equipment use.
- Manages chemical, pesticide, and hazardous material application, storage, and inventory according to regulatory standards.
- Participates in the hiring, supervision, and training of seasonal and full-time maintenance staff in coordination with the District Manager and with approval from the Board.
- Attends monthly board meetings at 6:00 pm on the third Wednesday of each month and participates in additional meetings when requested.
- Ensures cleanliness, organization, and safety of District yards, shops, and storage areas.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Reports directly to the District Manager.
- Provides daily supervision to maintenance crew, seasonal employees, contractors, and vendors.
Qualifications: Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in park/facility maintenance, construction, landscaping, or related fields, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Proficient in Google Suite.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Previous experience installing flash board dams and working in aquatic environments is highly desired.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid Class C California Driver’s License with a clean DMV record.
- Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- First Aid, CPR, and Basic Water Rescue certifications or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Proof of valid automobile insurance.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- An Associate's Degree (AA) in Parks and Recreation Management, Horticulture, Landscape Maintenance, Facilities Management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Extensive knowledge of parks and facilities maintenance, landscaping practices, equipment maintenance, and safe chemical handling.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining equipment, vehicles, and tools.
- Strong skills in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, plumbing, and structural systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and time-management abilities.
- Ability to swim proficiently (American Red Cross-Level 4).
- Conversational proficiency in Spanish (or similar language) preferred but not required.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
- Frequent outdoor exposure and work in various weather conditions.
- Working in the Russian River and tributaries for extensive periods of time.
- Regular physical exertion, including lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying items up to 80 pounds.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and performing manual outdoor labor.
- Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies when requested by the District Manager
- Availability to work weekends if requested.
Employment Details:
- Type: At-will, hourly, full-time.
- Hours: Typically 40 hours per week, Monday thru Friday with occasional flexibility for evenings, weekends, and emergencies.
- The District provides a maintenance vehicle for use during work hours exclusively for job-related duties.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Pay Rate: Dependent on qualifications and experience, expected range of $32 to $36/hr.
- Healthcare stipend: $300/month.
- Cell phone stipend: $60/month.
- Sick Leave: 48 hours annually (no rollover).
- Vacation: 10 days accrued annually (3.33 hours per pay period).
- Paid Holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and one floating holiday.
- The District provides a clothing allowance for necessary work apparel.
- Additional compensation: Performance-based bonuses for exceptional performance related to seasonal dam installations/removals and other District projects. Requires prior approval by the board.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Successful completion of fingerprinting, background check, medical and drug screening (if applicable), and proof of legal U.S. work eligibility.
