Program Assistant
For +20 years, the Vietnamese American Community Center of the East Bay (VACCEB) in Oakland, CA has been providing program services to low-income seniors and underrepresented refugee/immigrant communities. Our mission is to provide supportive services to refugees and immigrants while they are trying to become self-sufficient and integrate themselves into all aspects of American society. VACCEB provides a variety of supportive services, including food security, senior programs, information and assistance, translation services, education classes, health and wellness, advocacy work, and employment placement assistance. We are currently looking to hire a bi-lingual Program Assistant to support our many programs, specifically our Meal Program for seniors.
● Ensure client information is complete and up to date.
● Provide administrative staff with support including filing and emailing.
● Work with program coordinators to help with food deliveries and pickups.
● Help pack meal bags in preparation for distribution (on-site or mobile).
● Review food inventory for accuracy and proper storage.
● Contact clients regarding upcoming deliveries.
● Perform intake on forms for new clients.
● Able to get a ServeSaf certificate for handling of food items.
● Able to follow detailed instructions on handling and packing of meals items.
Qualifications:
● Minimum 2 years of positive work experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization
● Ability to communicate in English (written and orally).
● Ability to work directly and indirectly with underserved communities.
● Demonstrated experience and skills as a program assistant and successfully working within assigned deadlines and limited resources.
● Ability to work for sustained periods of time in a dynamic and often stressful environment calmly.
● Bilingual ability in English and/or Vietnamese, Cantonese, and Spanish desirable
$17/hour, Non-exempt 50% FTE Position – Temporary
