ESL Tesol Certified Instructor
For +20 years, the Vietnamese American Community Center of the East Bay (VACCEB) has been a refuge and resource for low-income and underrepresented refugee/immigrant communities. Our mission is to provide supportive services to refugees and immigrants while clients are trying to become self-sufficient and integrate themselves into all aspects of American society. VACCEB provides a variety of supportive services, including food security, senior programs, information and assistance, education classes (ESL, Digital Literacy, Citizenship), health and wellness, advocacy work, and employment placement assistance
We are currently hiring a TESOL-certified English Teacher. We are looking for someone who can commit for at least 3 months in order to get to know and build trust with our community.
Responsibilities:
● Prepare lesson plans and activities based on class level and curriculum objectives.
● Incorporate a variety of materials and teaching techniques to enhance student learning and outcomes, and to maintain student interest.
● Must be able to maintain student enrollment.
● Maintain student attendance records and monitor and record student outcomes
● Counsel individual students on language skills progress and provide recommendations
● Administer placement testing, mid-term and finals and assign students to classes accordingly
● Collect monthly/quarterly class tuition deposits (if applicable) and submit to Financial Coordinator
● Perform Salesforce ESL client data entry and management
● Work with Program Manager to ensure that education activities are keeping up with student needs and carried out according to grant requirements.
● Assist in collecting and writing reports for funder to meet contract requirements.
Qualifications:
● TESOL certification required to teach.
● Professional experience teaching English as a second language.
● Experience working on a team and in an office environment.
● Ability to work with a diverse community and ability to be patient with individuals learning English
● Available to work in-person for day or evening class, as needed. No remote working.
● Able to teach for at least a full quarter (12 weeks -Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec)
● Legally able to work in the United States and have a valid CA Driver’s license.
●Bi-lingual in Chinese, Vietnamese or Spanish desirable.
