ABD STUDIO - Junior Designer Job Description (Full Time Position)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Junior Designer is responsible for supporting the ABD STUDIO team by assisting in keeping the design library tidy and organized, as well as assisting the design team with all aspects of ABD STUDIO projects starting with creative inception through installation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:

ADMIN AND OPERATIONS

- Attend weekly team meetings

- Maintain fabric library, return samples to vendors and showrooms as needed and assist with keeping the studio organized

- File and tag office expense receipts on a continual basis

- Work with Admin Assistant to keep the installation kit and site visit bag stocked and organized on a continual basis

- Prep conference room for Client meetings and design presentations

- Submit reimbursable expenses on a monthly basis

MARKETING AND BRANDING

- Participate in preparing for and the styling of project photo shoots

DESIGN

- Assist in creating and updating furniture floor plans and elevations in AutoCAD

- Assist in creating custom furniture drawings in AutoCAD

- Assist in project design development and preparing design presentations

- Source and research interior merchandise, finishes / materials, fabrics, furniture, lighting, floor coverings, accessories, etc.

- Create design concept presentation boards with direction from the design team

- Confirm pricing and stock information for all fabric options in consideration

- Coordinate request and receipt of fabric and finish samples from vendor showrooms

- Coordinate items on loan from vendors including accessories, rugs and other furnishings / fixture samples for Client to see in person at design presentations

- Keep project sample packets up to date with all approved fabrics and finish samples

- Tidy conference room and file fabrics / finishes after client meetings

- Save specifications and images of all approved interior merchandise to project Google Drive folders

- Request quotes for Client approved interior merchandise, Save all received quotes to project Google Drive folders

- Request and maintain holds of one-of-a-kind items with vendors until Client approval

- Source vessels for interior plants and coordinate interior plant selection with plant vendor & oversee

installation on site

- Create and maintain accessories sourcing spreadsheets based on items approved by design team

- Request paint brush outs for review on site

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

- Gather images and detailed measurements of Client’s existing furniture, Populate Client’s existing furniture spreadsheet for reference throughout the project

- Save reimbursable item receipts in project Google Drive folders for accounting department to create Client reimbursable invoices

- Work with Project Coordinator to create project construction schedules

- Enter specifications for approved interior merchandise into Design Manager and create product proposals

- Approve and file CFA’s, Update expediting spreadsheet noting approved CFA’s

- Assist Expeditor with any design merchandise returns

- Record detailed internal meeting notes

- Visit custom workrooms and receivers warehouse to do interior merchandise inspections for quality control

- Assist with preparation for project installations, Coordinate laundering of all bedding, etc

- Participate on site for all project installations

- Prepare and issue Care & Maintenance to the client following project installation

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

- Professional, confident and assertive with strong written and verbal communication skills

- Adept critical thinking ability and adaptability with excellent creative problem solving skills

- Exceptional time management skills; the ability to understand priorities and multi-task successfully in a fast paced environment with multiple high-end residential interior design projects and competing project deadlines

- Ability to interact with clients, management, and professional collaborators in a professional and supportive manner

- Self-starter, responsible, and independent, as well as, team-oriented

- Able to take direction and open to receiving constructive feedback

- Flexible and eager to learn company systems

- Strong industry knowledge including but not limited to high-end showrooms, retail vendors, fabric, hardware, plumbing, lighting and finish vendors

- Detail oriented with exceptional organizational and follow-through skills

- Strong graphic design skills specifically in preparing aesthetically pleasing design presentations

QUALIFICATIONS

- Visual design portfolio required

- Minimum of 3 years previous employment at an interior design studio with experience working on high end construction projects

- Proficient at navigating San Francisco Design Center

- Bachelor’s of Science in Interior Design, Architecture or Interior Design Certification Preferred

- Adept in Google Drive (sheets, docs, slides)

- Proficient in AutoCAD

- Previous experience with Design Manager and Studio Designer, a plus!

- Hand-sketching and Google Sketch Up skills, a plus!

- Access to a reliable car, valid driver’s license and insurance required (mileage to be reimbursed)
