Oakland-based law office looking for a paralegal with office management and unlawful detainer experience. This position offers flexible hours and days.

1. Case Management: Handle unlawful detainer cases from start to finish, which includes initial client consultations, case analysis, drafting legal documents (notices, complaints, motions), court appearances, negotiations, and trials if necessary.

2. Legal Research: Stay updated on local, state, and federal laws governing landlord-tenant relationships, rental agreements, eviction processes, and tenant rights.

3. Client Counseling: Advise clients (often landlords or property management companies) on their rights and responsibilities under the law, as well as potential risks and outcomes of legal actions.

4. Court Representation: Advocate for clients in court proceedings, including pre-trial hearings, trials, and post-trial motions.

Skills and Qualifications:

1. Strong understanding of landlord-tenant law, housing regulations, and eviction procedures specific to the jurisdiction.

2. Experience with civil litigation, including courtroom procedures, evidence presentation, and legal argumentation.

3. Ability to negotiate settlements and agreements between landlords and tenants outside of court when possible.

4. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for drafting legal documents, communicating with clients, and presenting arguments in court.

Educational and Licensing Requirements:

1. Juris Doctor (JD): Completion of law school and passage of the bar exam in the jurisdiction.

2. Experience: Some prior experience in landlord-tenant law or related fields such as real estate law or civil litigation.
