We are looking for someone to hang out with our 20 year-old son on a regular basis. We would like someone for up to 10 hours per week, late afternoon, evenings or weekend (flexible). He likes to be out and about, including walking in parks, or going for car rides to get Jamba Juice, etc. He also enjoys spending time in our backyard, soaking in the hot tub daily or swimming in the pool during the summer. You’ll need to follow his lead on what activities he chooses and be able to accommodate his requests. We are not looking for an ABA approach or any other sort of intervention. This is his free time and a break for us and we’d like it to be enjoyable for all.
We prefer someone with an understanding of autistic needs, as well as familiarity with behavioral support. This job could work well for someone with an existing job who is interested in extra hours and income. Ideally, we’d like to establish a relationship with one or more people to spend time with our son longer term.
About him: he has limited verbal ability but communicates with pictures or through simple, partial utterances to get his needs met. He is 6 ft 1in, slender but strong and very quick. He has a mischievous sense of humor, loves music and watching YouTube videos. We can disclose more specific information as things progress.
We would like the person to sign up with a Respite Agency that we’ve worked with in the past. We will make up the difference in what they pay so that you receive $35 hourly rate.
For outings to the park or shop, we will provide our car. Must have a clean driving record and feel comfortable taking our son out. We have a large car with three rows and our son generally sits in the furthest row back from the driver.
