Location: Mayacama Golf Club, Santa Rosa, CA

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience

Mayacama Golf Club is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Wine Director to join our team. As the Wine Director, you will be responsible for curating an exceptional wine program that enhances the overall dining and social experience for our members and guests. Located in the heart of California's wine country, Mayacama Golf Club offers an unparalleled setting for showcasing a diverse selection of wines from around the world.

Responsibilities:

1. Retail Wine Sales:

Manage the retail wine program, including purchasing, pricing, and merchandising.

Maintain a robust inventory of wines, ensuring a balanced selection that meets the preferences of our members and guests.

Implement strategies to promote wine sales and increase revenue.

2. Wine Inventory Management:

Oversee all aspects of wine inventory management, including ordering, receiving, storage, and rotation.

Conduct regular inventory audits to track stock levels and identify opportunities for optimization.

Ensure proper cellar conditions to preserve wine quality and integrity.

3. Staff Training:

Develop and conduct wine education and training programs for restaurant and club staff.

Foster a culture of wine appreciation and knowledge among team members.

Provide ongoing support and guidance to staff to enhance their wine service skills.

4. Member Relations:

Build strong relationships with club members, understanding their preferences and evolving tastes.

Collaborate with the culinary team to create wine pairings and special wine events that cater to member interests.

Serve as a resource for members, offering personalized wine recommendations and assistance with private wine selections.

5. Private Client Services:

Provide personalized wine consultation services to club members and private clients.

Assist with wine cellar management for members, including acquisitions, appraisals, and inventory tracking.

Facilitate special orders and allocations for discerning clients seeking rare and collectible wines.

6. Restaurant Wine Service:

Oversee wine service in the club's restaurants, ensuring exceptional standards of presentation and hospitality.

Train and mentor restaurant staff on wine service techniques, including proper decanting, pouring, and presentation.

Work closely with the culinary team to develop wine lists that complement seasonal menus and showcase local wine offerings.

Manager on duty responsibilities as assigned by Food & Beverage Director

Qualifications:

Extensive knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and producers, with a passion for wine education and appreciation.

Proven experience in wine sales, inventory management, and staff training, preferably in a fine dining or hospitality setting.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with diverse audiences.

Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Certification from recognized wine education programs (e.g., WSET, CMS) preferred.

Must be at least 21 years of age and able to lift and move cases of wine.

Previous experience in a private club or luxury hospitality environment is a plus.
