Vibrant Christian Preschool in San Jose is seeking an experienced full-time Preschool Director who is passionate about making a difference in children's lives and has the call to minister to children.

Compensation: Attractive compensation depending on qualifications and experience.

Director Qualifications:

Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development, or related field and experience or equivalent

Over 36 ECE units and 5 years' experience or equivalent teaching children ages 2-5

6 semester units in administration

16-hours Health and Nutrition training

Current Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certification

Business administration, not-for-profit experience a plus

Additional experience as a childcare director, daycare director, early childhood director, or early intervention director is desired

Other Requirements:

Pass Background Check; complete LIC 508 and if already cleared also complete LIC 9182.

Pass physical exam showing immunizations for TB, measles, influenza and pertussis by a licensed physician; complete LIC 503

Concurrence with mandated reporting requirements, complete LIC 9052

Concurrence with child abuse reporting requirements, complete LIC 9108

Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds

Responsibilities:

Work with opening person to organize the daily staffing of the Center to insure appropriate ratios and care levels throughout the day.

Maintain enrollment to meet enrollment targets.

Provide necessary information and reports on enrollment and staffing.

Monitor enrollment to optimize staffing.

Plan, supervise, and implement a developmental program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school. Implement developmental activities which provide an opportunity for the children to master the skills on their developmental check list.

Gear the program to the individual needs of the children.

Create an attractive, stimulating and safe classroom environment.

Maintain classroom materials and furnishings.

Provide input on age-appropriate toys, equipment and materials. Order art supplies within each room budget.

Supervise and assist the clearing of the building in case of fire or another emergency. Carry out monthly earthquake and fire drills.

Orient new families to the program and promote involvement of parents in the program.

Build a positive team spirit among all staff in the classroom. Support classrooms as needed. Provide staff periodic feedback on their performance.

Attend all staff meetings.

Supervise, guide, and train staff under your supervision to realize their full potential as caregivers.

Conduct staff evaluation for staff members working under your direction.

Maintain a pleasant, positive, professional demeanor in interactions with staff and parents.

Ensure the program meets the individual need of the children and their families.

Treat all children with dignity and respect taking into account each child's individual needs and characteristics.

Provide support and Early Childhood Expertise to the program.

Act as a liaison between the Center and parents.

Oversee evaluations, developmental checklists and ensure conferences for the program.

Children:

Plan appropriate activities in the areas of social, emotional, intellectual, and physical (sensory and perceptual motor) growth. Activities should include language, art, music, dramatic play, sensory, STEM, and motor experiences. Children should be encouraged to participate in each of these activities.

Evaluate children's growth in above areas

Be responsible for children's safety and well-being at the school

Parents:

Regulate schedule to meet the needs of the children; guide parents into facilitating activities that are manipulative, multi-sensory, and that stress the process, not the product

Provide parent education, including conducting daily communication, analyzing problems or noteworthy activity, and addressing other parent concerns

Conduct private parent conferences once a year and other times, as needed

Model appropriate interaction with children

School and Staff:

Cooperate in a professional manner with other staff members in formulating and developing curriculum and procedures

Report to the Executive Director to discuss program materials and individual children's needs

Attend orientation meetings, general meetings, and staff development meetings

Maintain bi-annual Mandatory Reporter Training Class certification for self and all staff members

Other Duties:

Maintain attendance records of the children

Continue professional growth by attending workshops, classes, and conferences when possible

Maintain the preschool rooms, making sure all materials are put away and the rooms are left clean for the next class

Attend school functions

Comply with the provisions of the Employee Handbook

Lead a classroom for the first six months to learn the program, children & families

You are passionate about early childhood education, committed to a play-based educational philosophy, hold a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ and possess a mature faith. You have a thorough understanding of child development and are capable of leading children and families to a deeper understanding of the Gospel message of Christ's love. You thrive in a collaborative environment and love pitching in wherever needed.
