Reading Instructor/Tutor - Part-time Position (start teaching 3-6 hrs./week during School Year, plus one full Summer Session 7.5 to 15 hrs/week).

Are you looking to make a difference in a child's life? The Active Reading Center (ARC) uses Open Reading/Reading Revolution®, a proven methodology, enabling students to become proficient readers. No teaching credentials needed – training provided.

Organization: The Active Reading Center (ARC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, physician recommended, that has been opening the doors to reading success since 1992. For more information, visit our website at www.activereadingcenter.org

ARC is currently seeking dependable, dedicated candidates to teach in person at our center in Walnut Creek. We focus on teaching students in grades TK-5.

Reading Instructors/Tutors must:

Accurately read, speak, and write in English.

Attend training (8-week training consists of approximately 55 hours of hands-on education and practice in the Open Reading/Reading Revolution® methodology). 3 times per week in the morning with sessions of 2.5 to 3 hours in length. Training begins in March.

Pass a completion test.

Provide one-on-one instruction based upon each student's learning needs.

Commit to work during the school year a minimum of 2 afternoons per week, between 3-6 pm, including substitute teaching, and one full summer session (4 consecutive weeks in June or July, M-F, AM or PM).

Be punctual.

Interact positively and professionally with students, parents, and staff to provide a safe, motivating learning environment.

Attend one monthly staff meeting (evening).

Write up progress reports.
