POSITION OVERVIEW:
Old Orchard School has a rare opening for an experienced First Grade Teacher who is passionate about elementary education and elementary-age children and eager to join a warm and collegial TK-8 school community. Candidates should be forward-looking educators who are able to expertly plan and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction across all core academic subjects. They should be able collaborate effectively with other primary grade teachers, and with specialty teachers who work with the class throughout the school day. Expert written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to create an inviting and positive classroom environment is essential, including providing students with effective and age-appropriate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) instruction and guidance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in elementary education. A current multi-subject credential is strongly preferred.
At least 4 years’ experience teaching First Grade in-person, full time, as a lead teacher responsible for all instruction and oversight of the grade.
Ability to use online and digital tools to enhance instruction, track assessments, and communicate effectively with families and colleagues, and to track student assessment, record grades, and assess students.
A professional, flexible, and good-humored mindset, and an eagerness to collaborate with colleagues and participate in the wider school community.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Classroom Environment
Maintain a safe and structured learning environment within a dynamic, student-centered classroom that identifies and meets the needs of both the class and individual learners within the classroom.
Curriculum / Instruction
Design, plan, and deliver an inclusive, developmentally appropriate curriculum, supported by lessons, activities that promote both the academic and the social and emotional growth of students. Prepare and administer meaningful assessments that fairly evaluate students' progress, and differentiate instruction as needed to meet the needs of each student. Plan and supervise field trips and activities that and enrich student learning beyond the classroom. Work with elementary colleagues to ensure integration across subject areas and grades, and to address student concerns.
Communication
Clearly and professionally communicate with colleagues, students, and parents/guardians in person and in writing. This includes proactively addressing concerns regarding student learning or social-emotional development via progress reports, formal or informal parent conferences, and timely assessment of student work.
Professionalism:
Demonstrate professionalism through punctuality, collaboration, organization, participation in meetings and staff development opportunities, and by maintaining a respectful attitude in professional relationships.
Remain current in contemporary and developmentally appropriate pedagogical thinking, strategies, and techniques.
Consistently and clearly communicate with colleagues, administrators, and parents/guardians regarding student progress and any student issues.
Keep current in best practices in primary grade education, including contemporary and developmentally appropriate pedagogical thinking, strategies, and social emotional learning (SEL).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to visually monitor the classroom and students, and to supervise students outside and on field trips.
Ability to stand for up to and above 80-percent of time, including walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and kneeling.
Ability to move classroom equipment, materials, and other items up to 25lbs
SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS
$5,833.33 to 8,333 monthly, paid over 12 months ($70,000 to $100,000 annually); mid to higher end of the range is for highly experienced teacher with preferred qualifications.
