Culinary Camp Director

Locations: Walnut Creek and Berkeley / applicant may choose preferred location

Dates of Position:

Berkeley (June 10th-August 9th)

Walnut Creek (June 3rd-August 2nd)

4th of July week off for both locations

There will be two weekend trainings in May as well

Position Hours: 35 - 40 hours per week 8am - 4pm

Compensation: $26-$30 hourly

Come join a fun team of like-minded folks this summer as we share our love of cooking and yoga with youth! Our Camp Director will ensure that each day of camp runs smoothly and supports our small crew of counselors as they teach campers how to cook delicious vegetarian food with mindfulness and care. Camp Directors will also communicate with parents and ensure that registrations are in order. Perks of this job include a daily home-cooked lunch and making a difference in the lives of youth as they learn yoga, mindfulness and healthy cooking.

Job responsibilities:

Administration

-Monitor Camp Registration software and create camp rosters

Communication

-Interface with parents regarding all camp communications, including registration, delivery of parent/guardian reports, resolving grievances, and acting as a communication bridge between parents and counselors.

-Maintain close communication with the Camp Director to ensure camp is running smoothly

-Maintain a good relationship with the host venue and communicate any maintenance or safety issues in a prompt and polite manner.

Management

-Ensure the program runs smoothly and remain on site during camp hours.

-Record daily camp highlights, pictures and quotes for the weekly camp highlights newsletter.

-Clearly communicate camp schedule, procedures and expectations to staff and provide guidance, support and constructive feedback.

-Conduct daily morning staff meetings.

-Conduct camper check-in and check out.

-Oversee weekly culinary supply purchases and maintain all other necessary camp supplies.

-Oversee camp opening and closing procedures.

-Ensure adherence to safety protocols and emergency procedures.

-Set-up camp prior to the start of camp season and oversee camp break-down at end of season.

-Run staff training in cooperation with the Operations Director.

Additional Duties

-Supervise campers during snack, lunch, and free play times.

-Able to step in and teach hands-on culinary skills, yoga, and mindfulness if necessary.

Required Qualifications and Experience

-3+ years of experience working with children in a school or camp setting.

-Able to calmly and confidently make decisions in a fast-paced environment while maintaining good humor and professionalism.

-Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

-Willingness to follow directions and to work in a team

-Confidence and ability to take initiative and have a leadership role

-Possess extensive knowledge of enrichment and recreation activities, and support a collaborative environment

-Commitment to providing an education experience that is child-centered, safe, and inclusive.

-Undergraduate degree, preferably in education, social sciences, or a related field

-At least one year of experience teaching any of the following topics: cooking, yoga, science, gardening or outdoor education to elementary school aged youth

-Ability to carry equipment, do sun salutations, yoga poses, and play active games with campers

Physical requirements:

-Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, walk, twist and turn, and to lift 25 pounds.

-First Aid Certified (reimbursed)

-Food Handler Certified (reimbursed)

Desired Qualifications and Experience

-1+ year management experience

-You're a great home cook!

-Knowledge of farmers markets, sustainable cooking practices, breathing, yoga and meditation
