The Residue Lab Technician position is a full time, temp to hire position in Santa Maria, CA. Hours are from 2pm to 11pm/12am Tuesdays through Fridays, and 9am to 6pm on Saturdays. If hired permanently the schedule may change to a day shift. The pay rate is $18/Hr.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepare fruit, vegetable and other food and environmental samples for pesticide residue analysis.
Utilize laboratory equipment required for sample preparation and analysis.
Utilize laboratory utensils and glassware to perform sample extraction, pesticide standard and reagent preparation.
Handle chemicals such as solvents and acids in sample extractions and reagent preparation.
Perform general laboratory support including cleaning and organization.
Prepare chemical reagents and pesticide solutions as required in the analysis.
Execute standard operating procedures (SOPs) and test methods.
Follow & perform Quality Control (QC) procedures - run QC samples as described in the QC schedule.
Maintain open communication with co-workers
Utilize good laboratory practices and safety within the laboratory.
Perform pipetting and serial dilutions
Skills & Qualifications
Science background and/or laboratory skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills (Spanish capabilities, a plus)
Computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office
Strong math skills
Professional skills, a plus
Ability to lift 25 pounds
Clean DMV record
Open and flexible work schedule, including late evenings, weekends and/or overtimes
